I'm still waiting for the soap photo!

I have a question for the fashion knowledgeable;
Should a belt be threaded left to right or right to left when the buckle is neutral? This had been a long running debate between me and a close friend, and I'd like some closure. While I'm not prepared to go to war over this, as some countries might over which end of an egg to open, I would like to believe that I'm correct.

There is a way to do it right and there is one that is wrong. Mens and womens clothes button up in different directions. The closure of your belt has to be on the side where your button is and the end with the holes is where the holes of the trousers are.

So for men it is a different direction as for women.

Wow, I knew it was mentioned to start a thread about clothes, but when I checked through the lounge yesterday, I didn't see this. I can't believe how quick it filled.

Iridal, beautiful dress and Poppaea what a fantastic blue Miyake top!

Crocs... well, like others, there was no way that I would wear them. My aunt wears nothing else and swears they are _the_ most comfortable shoes ever. After reading all your posts here, I just might have to check for a pair and try them. They look like they would be better than flip flops for yard work.

Stitchawl - I don't think it matters which way you put the belt on... just that it can be closed.

Don't take anyone's word. Try them on, walk across the store, and see for yourself. You won't want to take them off. Just don't look down...

Oh... and be sure that they are genuine 'Crocs,' and not a knock-off. VERY different!

Quote:
I never have tried them on either, like you, I figured they'd be terribly uncomfortable and I don't like the way they look either. But I do see them on LOTS of the nurses at the hospital so either that's a different kind, or they must be comfortable...
If you have to be on your feet all day, they are a dream come true!

Really? Intriguing, since I figured they'd be hot and sweaty on the feet as well.
Japan is very hot and very, very humid, especially now during the Rainy season. The Crocks aren't the least bit hot and sweaty as one would think they should be...

Does this hold true for a guy who is abroad?

I used to only wear Teva sandals in the summer time for normal walking around as well as hiking. I don't think I'd wear the Crocs for hiking, but walking around all day in town, they are more comfortable than the Teva!

I had a pair of sandals that did this. They only lasted one season.

Very pretty!!

Iri; very glad you started the thread, and look, you already have a fashion debate going on! As for me, I just found out (and don't laugh, y'all, I normally hate clothes shopping and don't pay attention) that Hanes here in the U.S. has started packaging women's tank tops and tees in multi packs like they've been doing for men for ages. I grabbed a couple of packages and the tees are the most comfortable things EVER. And cheap! I need some more shorts, but don't know where or when I'll get them, since I didn't get the ones from Kohl's yesterday. I also want/need another good pair of leather "earth shoes" sturdy sandals.
you really need to check them out... seriously... I might even get inspired enough to link to their website so the other shoes can be seen

they've had them for awhile at COSTCO

it used to be that mens and womens shirts buttoned/snapped opposite, who knows why. this was significant for me because when I was young/little (under 12) and showing horses it was a big deal getting the show clothes I needed and doing the mix/match thing. REALLY thinking about it... I think when women clothes used to button/zip, etc., it was always on the left side so the belts may have been oriented that way

What are whistles? I've never heard of that before ...

Showing off one of my new outfits today. I'm feeling a little bohemian in my black linnen pants, crinkled v-neck shirt and flat sandals!

I've ordered 6 new t-shirts at threadless.com yesterday. 10$ = 6,8€ per shirt! They should arrive in about 2 weeks

Sorry, I explained it wrong. The buckle is on the side where the button shows up when the pants are closed. The side where the whole is, is where you have the buckle and when the pants are closed it is where the button shows up.

In my wardrobe today: Nothing warm enough for the nasty rain here.

Oh, the joys of living in S.E. Asia! I used to have all my shirts made for me by this little old man who had a 'garage' shop near my house in Thailand. I'd supply the cloth, (bought at the local fabric shops,) thread (Thai thread is waaaay too weak) and he'd sew up the shirts for about $3 USD each. Considering my neck, shoulders, and chest need an XL, my waist needs an L, and my arms need an M, getting shirts that fit right off the rack has never worked for me! He made all the formal wear for the Japanese women in town too!

The 'story' is (and who really knows if it's true) that women rich enough to have clothes that buttoned were rich enough to have maids that dressed them. To close a button most people use their right hands, so to allow the maids to do the work, they reversed the sides. The men dressed themselves. I'm left-handed but always close buttons with my right hand... go figure!

I think you hit the nail on the head, men's buttons are designed to be done up with the right hand. Belts are the same, you use your right hand to thread the belt, so the buckle will always be on the left side and you pull the loose end with your right. That's my theory anyway

Croc's, they are one of those "Love/Hate" things, I have tried them on and loved them in the store, but after 3 or 4 hours in them my feet were in agony and it felt as though the skin on the bottom of my feet was coming off. I still have the shoes and if I wear socks, which I think looks like those old guys in sandals and black socks, ridiculous! Don't get me wrong, if you like them they seem to be great, I still wear mine in the water for short periods, they are great for river running, unless you wear stubby fins.

As for fashion, I do have a question, is it ever ok to wear brown shoes and belt with black or grey pants or suit? Sorry one of my pet peeves!

Mine are knock-off
Only 1/3 of the real price

My excuse is that I use them one time in a year. If I am lucky - twice. If I am not so lucky, then zero. Like the last year we didn't have any sunny holiday over summer or Christmas.

The gentleman's rule is: No brown in town. Brown shoes are for the tweeds worn in the country. Black is with black only, same is true for grey slacks. Italians wear grey flanell slacks with brown shoes so you have to make up your mind if you are an English gentleman or an Italian gigolo

Grey and brown is ok but no formall wear, if working in a bank for example it is a no-no.

Same as far as I know. No black trousers with brown shoes or vv. Although I keep seeing lots of women using the combo. Philosophical dilemma
