Pretty straight ahead guy, Mr Serbinis. Kobo clearly has a plan and, even with modest resources, is moving forward and updating its product (bookstore expansion, ereader firmware enhancements, localised markets, new devices, multi-platform content delivery / management). All this with not nearly the financial clout of B&N, Borders, Amazon, Sony.
Another example is the kobobooks blog. There is a discussion there about a "bill of rights" for e-book users. Both the posting and the comments are worth reading. http://blog.kobobooks.com/2010/09/17...sbillofrights/ |

Glad to see someone mention the DRM. It's a big mistake, just like it was for music. When it goes, ebook sales will go up, not down.

I would love to be able to tap into an alternate universe where I would sell Risen with DRM, just to see how sales compared.
I feel that the best way to combat piracy is with a product that is easily available and reasonably priced. Most people understand that writing a good book is hard work and that it's only right to pay the author a little money for his/her efforts. So I chose the DRM-free route. It would be nice to be able to see if I'm right or wrong. |
