Stranger Things Happen By Kelly Link (Free)
Found this while doing a search and browse at random (I need a bit of random in my day from time to time)
Apparently Niel Gamien called her one of the best short story writers around at the moment. http://www.lcrw.net/kellylink/sth/ It's availabe in multiple versions and released under Creative Commons Licence From the site This first collection by award-winning author Kelly Link, takes fairy tales and cautionary tales, dictators and extraterrestrials, amnesiacs and honeymooners, revenants and readers alike, on a voyage into new, strange, and wonderful territory. The girl detective must go to the underworld to solve the case of the tap-dancing bank robbers. A librarian falls in love with a girl whose father collects artificial noses. A dead man posts letters home to his estranged wife. Two women named Louise begin a series of consecutive love affairs with a string of cellists. A newly married couple become participants in an apocalyptic beauty pageant. Sexy blond aliens invade New York City. A young girl learns how to make herself disappear. These eleven extraordinary stories are quirky, spooky, and smart. They all have happy endings. Every story contains a secret prize. Each story was written especially for you. Stories from Stranger Things Happen have won the Nebula, Tiptree, and World Fantasy Award. Stranger Things Happen was a Salon Book of the Year, one of the Village Voice's 25 Favorite Books of 2001, and was nominated for the Firecracker Alternative Book Award. |

Caliber will convert most. I've had best success with converting the HTML compared to most others.

Well, hell, the PRC version won't download.
And the HTML isn't valid HTML, either. Last edited by sirbruce; 06-18-2009 at 05:41 AM. |

I don't think the PRC has ever worked (I tried last year). The HTML version in the user conversion section should work for you (with the linked TOC); I just redownloaded and checked it. It's at least valid enough HTML that firefox opens it.

Both of Kelly Link's short story collections (Stranger Things Happen, Magic For Beginners) have been available on Feedbooks for ages, and both are amazing collections.

The cover for Stranger Things Happen makes me think of Nancy Drew.

At least one does... the custom-PDF that will use the font you specify at the size you specify, and also looks better than any of the other formats.
I guess what I'm saying... happy conversion to everyone at MobileRead. - Ahi |
