Is there a way to turn off a Kindle?
Paperwhite 2024 with firmware 5.20.1. When I hold down the power button, I eventually get an option to turn the screen off or reboot the device. If I continue to hold the button down, the device reboots.

No, but it will hibernate and that's practically the same - the battery will last for months while hibernating.

You can jailbreak it, and install a shutdown script activated by KUAL.

According to kindlemodding.org, KUAL no longer works. Now you just drop scripts into your Documents folder and they show up as books you can click on.

I'm not bothered by the lack of shutdown. It's just an interesting choice.

KUAL works (or newer KUAL compatible "ports" [ this or that] that are needed in case of 5.19.x firmware) they (kindlemodding.org people) just prefer their "better" approach of using "scriptlets" (and creating a mess in Library view / book list). Anyways any KUAL extension can be "converted" into a "scriptlet" with minimal effort.
Since in the end both do the same thing: run a shell script.

KUAL was broken by Amazon removing parts of Java in certain recent firmware versions and has nothing to do with specific jailbreaks.
