github only keeps the most recent release as calibre releases are huge and I dont want to use free storage up. You want older releases the canonical place is: https://download.calibre-ebook.com/

I got the 404 on the Alternate download location link on the Windows download page. The Download calibre 64bit link on that page was okay - i.e. it downloaded "calibre-64bit-9.16.0.msi".

The Alternate download location link on the Portable download page was also okay - i.e. it downloaded "calibre-portable-installer-9.16.0.exe".

You probably needed to hit reload on that page

I did hit reload, also cleared cache. It's okay today.

Difference between then and now, is that Firefox download & browse history would have been purged, they're done in my 'end of day' housekeeping script.

Should have tried Edge or a direct download with FDM.

Getting fed up with Firefox, way too many zero-value cosmetic changes and explicable glitches. I see one of the readers of "The Atlantic" had one of them with the new recipe.
