I have a kindle PW6 (jailbroken) and wish to compress folders to .zip on my kindle.
I would like to know if there is a way to do so on-device without a bothersome copy-zip-replace with a computer. I have not seen such feature in kterm nor the micropython kindle port. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, HenriHenry |

You could try gzip/gunzip in the /bin directory (those are symlinks to the executables) or bzip2 in the /usr/bin directory which does not create .zip files but .bz2 offers higher compression that .zip in most cases.

I just tested gzip and it works, thanks !
However, one of the reasons I was so adamant about the ouptut being a .zip was so that I could use it in KOReader (a zipped folder of images can be read by KOReader as a single book), but .gz files are not supported. At least, now I can compress files on-kindle, which is nice (I'll try bzip2 as well). Thanks again, HenriHenry |
