Trouble with PW1 Jailbreak
Hi all, I'm a Kindle novice who just got a hand me down PW1 and is having trouble getting KOReader going.
I have a PW1, serial B024* and I started on 5.6.1.1. I tried to follow the kindle modding wiki recommendation for winterbreak2 but the experimental browser wouldn't load the page. I looked around and found this other procedure: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...08&postcount=7 I was able to downgrade to 5.4.4 and I successfully ran the K5 jailbreak (I saw the **** JAILBREAK ****) I then tried to install stuff via the kindle modding wiki instructions. I downloaded the peki kual download and the modern mrpi download. At this point I couldn't see anything on the home page or by typing ";log runme" anything. When I type ";log" anything the search bar goes away and the screen flashes. I flailed around with hotfixes for a while but nothing seemed to happen. Where did I go wrong? Any recommendations? Thanks! Last edited by ElectricalBook; 07-04-2026 at 09:44 PM. |

Update: After adding some books with Calibre via USB KUAL appeared on my home screen, but trying to launch it does nothing.

Update on the update:
Installed MRPI from NiLuJe's snapshots (kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r19303.tar.xz) by extracting extensions/ and mrpackages/ folders to the Kindle root. Installed MKK and KUAL via MRPI by extracting Update_mkk-20141129-k5-ALL_install.bin from the MKK package and Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.37_install.bin from the KUAL package and dropping both into the mrpackages/ folder. Then ran ;log mrpi on the Kindle. Both installed and KUAL launched successfully. Installed KOReader (koreader-kindle-v2026.03.zip) by unzipping directly to the Kindle root. Launched via KUAL. I decided to leave it at 5.4.4 since it seems like it's working. Any reason to try to get back to 5.6.1.1? |

I went back to 5.6.1.1 on my PW1 but that was more due to personal preference than any real reason.
