Add Existing Files
My "Add Existing Files" dialog box takes up to a minute (timed) to populate.
Is there a reason or setting for it to do that? I am using Win 11 with a large number of drives attached. It has been doing this for a few versions since the dialog was changed. I am now on version 2.7.5 and it is still doing it and I was just curious as to why. Paul |

The reason is that the software to scan a remote drive and pick the proper icon for each file takes up a lot of time using the non-native dialog box.
You can speed things up a bit by setting the following Sigil environment variable: SIGIL_NO_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_ICONS As explained in the Sigil Users Guide: Quote:

Thank You
Thanks,
That is kind of what I thought was causing the problem, but I thought I would ask. About Environment Variables. The Users Guide is kind of worthless, it gives the environment names but does not give a value. When setting a Windows Environment Variable you supply the name and a value. Exactly what do I put in as a value? Paul. |

Oops sorry about that. I found the plugin and used it to set the variable and it works much better now.

With many of the variables, it simply doesn't matter what you set them to. Being set to something or not being set at all is how many of them work. So if the documentation doesn't specify just what to set the variable to, then the value likely doesn't matter. Set it to "1", or "true", or "on", or anything you want. To undo it, unset the environment variable entirely.
