All remote images are a hazard:
1) might not work 2) might expire 3) Can maliciously be replaced. IMO all images should be uploaded, or links to images already on this site. Some other forums do this. |

s going to eventually be too bad when they expire. And as we see from imgr, not everyone can access the images. I was unable to access the image because imgr said it was overloaded. |

You can create inline thumbnails (which can be magnified) to images attached to posts on MobileRead. No one is being forced to use external image sites. Linkrot and removed remote images are not going to be cured by banning sites.

imgr is the main issue right now. It's not working in the UK and I do sometimes find that imgr is overloaded. So anyone in the UK without a VPN, igmr images won't be seen. And when it's overloaded, who know when that will stop so we can see the image(s).

It still doesn't matter. We're not banning imgr. For one thing... How exactly would we accomplish that? Modify the forum software to disallow imgr urls from being entered into url bbcode tags? That sounds straightforward. And if we didn't do that (and we're not going to) and just banned imgr connections from the forum altogether; how would breaking ALL existing links to imgr images in ALL posts on the forum since time began make the situation any better? Or do you imagine we could somehow ban only future connections to imgr?
Yours is not a reasonable--let alone sensible--request. Might as well ask to disable ALL remote image resource capabilities on the forum (hint: not happening). Last edited by DiapDealer; Today at 07:17 PM. |
