Calibre not downloading metadata from Amazon or FF

I've noticed recently when downloading metadata, that I'm not getting anything from Amazon (US) or fantasticfiction.com. Has something changed?

It would help if you could run calibre in debug mode and post the log file here. I haven't use Fantastic Fiction as a metadata source in quite a while so can't comment on that. For Amazon, I use the configuration in the attached image and haven't seen any issues other than being blocked if I make too many requests. One reason that I long ago gave up on Bulk metadata download.

I just tried changing the Amazon plug-in, country US, to use the Amazon servers, and DuckDuckGo and Google cache - no luck. I'll try again with those option boxes checked.

Tried running boxes ticked and country set to Canada. Still no luck. Ran Calibre in debug mode, not sure if I did it correctly. Attached the command line output - is this the log file?

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I wanted the debug log file to see if there were any issues with calibre but also to include the log file after attempting to download metadata using the View log button and then Copy to Clipboard button. Once you have pasted the log files into a message, please wrap them in Spoiler (select the text and click the Xed eyeball icon).

Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) is a humorous account by English writer Jerome K. Jerome of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford and back to Kingston. The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers – the jokes seem fresh and witty even today. The three men are based on Jerome himself (the narrator Jerome K. Jerome) and two real-life friends, George Wingrave (who would become a senior manager at Barclays Bank) and Carl Hentschel (the founder of a London printing business, called Harris in the book), with whom Jerome often took boating trips.

The novel "Three Men in a Boat," written by English author Jerome K. Jerome and published in 1889, is a humorous story about a boat trip in the Thames River that J. takes with his friends George and William Samuel Harris. Jerome’s prose is long-winding and digresses into anecdotes or observational passages quite often.

Comments : <p>Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a ‘T’. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather forecasts and tins of pineapple chunks—not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.’s small fox-terrier Montmorency. Three Men in a Boat was an instant success when it appeared in 1889, and, with its benign escapism, authorial discursions and wonderful evocation of the late-Victorian ‘clerking classes’, it hilariously captured the spirit of its age. Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), published in 1889, is a humorous account by English writer Jerome K. Jerome) and two real-life friends, George Wingrave (who would become a senior manager at Barclays Bank) and Carl Hentschel (the founder of a London printing business, called Harris in the book), with whom Jerome often took boating trips. The dog, Montmorency, is entirely fictional but, "as Jerome admits, developed out of that area of inner consciousness which, in all Englishmen, contains an element of the dog." The trip is a typical boating holiday of the time in a Thames camping skiff. This was just after commercial boat traffic on the Upper Thames had died out, replaced by the 1880s craze for boating as a leisure activity. Jerome Klapka Jerome (1859-1927) was an English writer and humourist, best known for the comic travelogue Three Men in a Boat (1887). Other works include the essay collections Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (1886) and Second Thoughts of an Idle Fellow; Three Men on the Bummel, a sequel to Three Men in a Boat, and several other novels.</p>

Comments : <p>When J. the narrator, George, Harris and Montmorency the dog set off on their hilarious misadventures, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather-forecasts, imaginary illnesses, butter pats and tins of pineapple chunks. Denounced as vulgar by the literary establishment, <strong>Three Men in a Boat</strong> nevertheless caught the spirit of the times. The expansion of education and the increase in office workers created a new mass readership, and Jerome's book was especially popular among the 'clerking classes' who longed to be 'free from that fretful haste, that vehement striving, that is every day becoming more and more the bane of nineteenth-century life.'</p>
<p>So popular did it prove that Jerome reunited his heroes for a bicycle tour of Germany. Despite some sharp, and with hindsight, prophetic observations of the country, <strong>Three Men on the Bummel</strong> describes an equally picaresque journey constrained only 'by the necessity of getting back within a given time to the point from which one started'. </p>

FF does not appear to be working which should probably be reported in the FF metadata plugin.

Amazon does appear to be working. BUT it can block you if you try to do to many metadata searches. Normally they will block you for a few hours. BUT, I did have a couple times where I was blocked for 4-5 DAYS (Might have been up to a week).

Troubleshooting the problem really needs the metadata download log David mentioned.

After doing the "download metadata" in Edit Metadata" screen before accepting the results ("OK") press the "View Log" button beside it, and then "copy to clipboard" and paste that info here.

Tried another book and noticed this: "calibre.ebooks.metadata.sources.amazon.CaptchaErr or: Amazon returned a CAPTCHA page, probably because you downloaded too many books. Wait for some time and try again. "

Not sure what I'm supposed to do about this Amazon hasn't been working for me for weeks.

Comments : <p><strong>Internationally bestselling author Amy Meyerson takes readers on a harrowing journey where two mothers—one of a woman who drowned and the other of a toddler who might know what happened to her—are the only ones searching for the truth.</strong> </p>
<p>Heavily pregnant with her second child, Tessa Irons has enough on her mind without her toddler throwing tantrums at the local coffee shop. The boy is inconsolable, shouting “Gigi!” to a woman Tessa’s never seen before—and never will again. The next morning, the woman’s body is dredged up from the canal outside the Ironses’ posh Venice Beach home, and Tessa’s gut tells her it’s no coincidence. </p>
<p>Barb Geller refuses to believe that her daughter’s death was just some drunken accident. She heads to California for answers, where she crosses paths with Tessa. Together they hunt for the truth, certain they’ll find a connection between their children. </p>
<p>But the police don’t believe them. Tessa’s husband dismisses her worries as pregnancy jitters, and even though people are always watching along the canals, no one saw a thing. Tessa and Barb only have each other, their intuition, and the creeping sense of danger that grows with every shocking revelation.</p>

I have taken a look at this now. It appears FF have wound up their anti-scraping measures, and I don't have the time to figure out a workaround at this point. If someone else wants to take a look at it I will happily except a fix.
