How can I have a metadata view of the books on my device, instead of the folder view?
Been using KOreader for a while and mostly enjoying it, but one thing that is frustrating, is when I use the default software it reads all the metadata of the ebooks on the device and uses that as a way to display the books, but in KOreader, basically it is just a file manager where I choose a "root" dir, and then can add books to it, or put the books in subdirs and stuff.
The thing is how can I sort the ebooks using meta data, view by author, by series, by tags and other things like that? For example if I have a series and it is 12 books, in the file view it is alphabetical, so even if i put that one series in a subfolder, all the books are out of order. I know there is this thing called "collections" but having to manually add eveything to them yourself is a real pain. Isn't there a metadata way of viewing your device, like most of the devices I have owned had as the base way of viewing the books? Maybe a plugin or something? thanks! |

You can sort by metadata in the file browser.
You can add books to collections automatically. |

Open Collections. Long-press on the collection you want to automatically add books to. Select 'Connect folders'. Browse your file system and long press on the folder(s) you want to connect. Exit out of it. Now your collection should contain the books from the folder(s) and be updated automatically.

In addition to the automated collections, if you're using calibre to manage your books, you can make calibre send the books into specific folders based on the collection structure you want.
if you go to Settings > Sending books to devices, under template you'll see something like the following. Code:
{title} - {Author} ({id})
You can go as complicated as you like. I recommend that you use the Template editor. If you multiselect a bunch of books before going into settings and template editor, it will show you real-time what paths you will be ending up on your device using the syntax you designed in the editor. Code:
{#collections}/{title} - {Author} ({id})
Code:
{#collections:contains(^read$,read,)}{#collections:contains(^next-up$,next-up,)}{#collections:contains(^unread$,unread,)}{#collections:contains(^((un)?read)|(next-up)$,,archived)}/{title} - {Author} ({id})
