Aura H2O edition 2 Issues after logging out and back in

Hi everyone,

I am having a few issues with my Kobo ereader device (Aura H2O edition 2).

I had been having an issue with not sincing and read here that a likely cause was a corrupted database. The fix was to log out of your account and log back in. I completed this no problem and my device is now sincing.

I now have an issue with my books (and it is different if sideloaded or loaded via the Kobo app).

- For sideloaded books, it is not remembering any progress. I open the book and read, when I close it is still listed as unread.

- For books loaded through the Kobo app, the total number of pages is very low (< 100 pages for a full length novel) and the time remaining in both the book (a few minutes) and chapter (seconds) is wrong. Additionally, the graph of pages per chapter is completely wrong.

I have also re-logged out and logged in and there is no difference to the behavior.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea what might be the cause and how to fix. I don't know if the sinching issue and the current one are linked.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

What version firmware are you running? There are some firmware that have a problem and can corrupt the database. If it's not the latest firmware, make sure it is. Also, when you disconnect from the computer, are you first ejecting?

Thank you both for your replies and advice. To answer the above questions.

My firmware is 4.38.23171 which I believe is the most up to date for my device.

Yes, I always eject before disconnecting from my computer.

Yes, the data and time are correct.

1 additional symptom that I have just found is that it won't go from sleep mode to powered down automatically. I can manually put it in either mode.

Thanks!

The Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 does not have removable internal storage which eliminates imaging a new µSD card. From some of your symptoms, it's possible that the eMMC chip has reached the end of it's write life and has gone read-only.

If you have calibre with the Kobo Utilities installed, use the Database => Check device database to see if the database is okay. If the database fails, do not restore the databases after the full factory reset

The only option I see for you is to try a full factory reset which can be done two different ways. Before doing either, I suggest backing up the FAT32 partition on your Aura H2O E2 to your computer and then restoring it after you have completed the process. See caveat above about not restoring the databases (BookReader.sqlite and KoboReader.sqlite) after the reset.

See this page: Manual reset your Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 for information on doing a manual reset.

You can also try searching for devmodeon in the search dialog. This should enable Developer Mode. If this works, you should see a Developer options item in More => Settings => Device information. On the Developer options pages, you should see a Factory reset your eReader option which does the same full factory reset as the manual option.
