Question How to install firmware on Kobo Libra 2 SD card ?

Hello,

I have a concern with a Kobo Libra 2, and I first mention that I'm a beginner regarding reader maitenance or upgrade operation.

The device is stuck, white screen, permament flashing led. The reader is not reachable when I connect it to a computer. I tried factory reset process, but the device doesn't respond at all. I kept the reader on the charger full night, no improvement. I opened it, checked the battery. It sounds OK. So I carefully removed the SD card. I can read it now on the computer with an adapter (Windows 11 computer).

Now I would like to totally reset the SD card with a new firmware as I'm suspecting a firmware corruption. Current SD card contains of version file is:
N418267020350,4.1.15,4.38.21908,4.1.15,4.1.15,0000 0000-0000-0000-0000-000000000388

I downloaded kobo-update-4.31.19086.zip and kobopatch_4.31.19086.zip from the forum. Hopefully this version make sense with my device …

I would really appreciate if someone could :
- confirm if those files are ok for this device?
- provide a step-by-step procedure to "flash" the SD card

Last point, hope this message will be clear, as I'm not a native English spoken guy … :-)

Thanks in advance for your help

The firmware is more than just the 3.31.19086 package you downloaded. To completely replace the existing firmware, you will need to request an image for the N418 Libra 2 by posting your request in the Kobo µSD Card Image Requests thread.

Before obtaining the image, you may want to try using the instructions in the Memory Upgrade Mod Guide (With Pictures) thread to create an image from your existing µSD card and then writing the image to a replacement µSD card to see if that will revive your Libra 2.

I do not recommend re-using the existing µSD card since all too often it is the source of the problems. If you do want to try re-using the old µSD card, using the SD Card Association's SD Memory Card Formatter for Windows/Mac and do a full format on the card before writing the image to it.

Device: Kobo N418 (Libra 2)
Same N418 problem

Same problem here, Kobo led keeps blinking. Empty screen, every 30 seconds the screen flashes.
Same hardware: Kobo Libra 2 N418.
No help from Kobo. Just an offer (insult?) for 10-20 Euro discount when we buy a new one.
I also removed the micro SD and read it with linux PC.
It shows version:
N418211056825,4.1.15.4.38.23171,.....
There is a file dated Sep 23: kobo-update-4.38.23429.zip
So, my conclusion is that it got stuck in a bootloop. I want to try to write a fresh image to a new micro SD.
From the Kobo image request I read:
"Kobo N418 Libra 2 (there are five versions of the image due to hardware changes)"
Can I download images from the site or do I make a request?

Referring to the original post:
#SRu did you make any progress?

Thanx in advance for any additional information

The normal procedure is to make a request in the Kobo µSD Card Image Requests thread and the link will be sent to you in a Private Message.

I've skipped to sending you the PM.

This thread is now closed. Please post requests in the thread linked above.
