Battery saving - Sleep or Just Put Down?

I have read that ereaders only use power when page turning.
When I stop reading for a while, should I just lay the device down or put it to sleep?

I think the frontlight uses power too, if you have it on. So I'd put it to sleep, if it's for longer than a few minutes. Unless you read without the light.

Yes, light also WiFi and BT. The light can use a lot of power.

Definitely put it to sleep.
Even if the frontlight is off, the system is still running in the background and using power.

Also, I don’t really notice any difference in battery usage when reading, whether the frontlight is on or off.

Depends on light pipe design, LED efficiency*, screen size and brightness. An 8" screen might use nearly twice the power at the same brightness as on a 6" screen.

[* White LEDs are really blue to violet (rarely UV) LEDs with a phosphor or phosphors. The cheapest and least good white ones are actually usually more efficient using a simple yellow phosphor on a blue LED. Some frontlights have also amber LEDs, or even R G B leds instead of "white"]
