Firmware bummer

I installed the latest firmware (Instapaper) on my kobo and it killed my koreader. It just says generator error in the nickel menu where koreader was. It used Kfmon I believe. I went to reinstall just Kfmon but the link I would in the forums just had a PNG file in it.

I am at a loss on how to fix this. I had my nickel menu and koreader set up the way I liked it and would hate to have to refigure out setting those up again.

Try the latest version of NickelMenu. You'll have to go to the NickelMenu thred to find out where to get it.

I will give it a go, will I loose my setup and settings in nickelmenu and/or koreader?

Well that was a complete failure. I reinstalled nickel menu using the one click method. Now it is all gone nickelmenu, koreader etc. Back to the Kindle until I feel like messing with it again.

Next time ensure you've taken a copy of the files you see when the Kobo id attached via USB. NickelMenu stores all it's configuration data in the .adds/nm directory of the drive; I'm not sure about KoReader. If you're using a Mac you will need to select a Mac option to display hidden directories (I believe in Finder it's 'Command + Shift + Period (.)' to toggle hidden files' visibility).

All good information to know. I reinstalled with the install scripts and have nickel menu back with single koreader option (sigh). Going into Koreader, it is missing all the icons that should be at the top, lol.

So I decided to reinstall again, the on click option but chose the KOReader version from April I think it was. That worked, icons there. Then I was able to have koreader check for update and install the August update and it still is working fine. Now just working through reinstalling plugins (ProjectTitle), setting fonts, spacing, etc the way I like it again. Then moving on to getting status bar the way I had it, etc etc. A pain this is, but it is coming along, slowly.
Then I will back to NickelMenu and get that configured as close as I remember it being as well.
