Kindle firmware 5.18.1 released for all 10th gen and newer Kindles

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW I've got a jailbroken Scribe 2022, so I'm going to hold off on trying this update until it's been confirmed if jailbreaking is still working. The Release Notes are not updated yet as of this post. Could someone who has installed it post what the Release Notes say on the device itself? |

I suppose that it will probably block the Jailbreak as there's no new feature listed.

"Double Tap to Page Turn: You can now double tap on the sides or back of your device to turn pages in books or scroll down in Home and Library. This feature can be turned on or off in Settings > Device Options." (Paperwhite 12 gen, Colorsoft).

A user on discord reported that after updating Colorsoft to 5.18.1 hotfix was reinstalled OK, everything works

That's great to see! With a success report, I'm willing to try the upgrade myself.

Ok, re-enabled OTA updates (rebooted itself) and then copied the update .BIN to the root of the Scribe. Used UYK to install it. After the device finished booting, it auto downloaded a new dictionary (Shogakukan Progressive Japanese-English Dictionary). I then rebooted it manually through the Settings. When it finished, I ran the Run Hotfix booklet, which rebooted the Scribe. KUAL still wouldn't run, but the Scribe popped up requesters to restart to install font updates for Chinese and Japanese. I've never seen the screen for this before. I wasn't able to get a picture of it before it disappeared, but it wasn't the usual reboot image of a kid under a tree, it was a world map. Tried KUAL again, still wouldn't work. So, I copied the KUAL installer bin to the mrpackages folder on the Scribe, and then ran ;log mrpi to reinstall it. After that KUAL ran fine. KOL had also broken, so I tried to use the KOL hotfix bin, but that did not work. I had to use the full regular installer to restore it. Gargoyle seems to be fine with just the regular Run Hotfix to re-enable the jailbreak. I must be missing something because I can't find where the Release Notes are on the Scribe itself. I know I've seen them before, and other people are posting them, but there's nothing that I see in Settings so far. Condensed: 1. Re-enable OTA (auto reboot) 2. Install 5.18.1 bin with Update Your Kindle (auto reboot) 3. Let it install dictionary and font updates 4. Reboot manually 5. Run HackerDude Run Hotfix booklet (auto reboot) 6. Fix KUAL by copying installer bin to mrpackages and reinstall it with ;log mrpi 7. Verify other apps work. 8. Re-enable OTA block with Rename OTA binaries by running Rename (auto reboot) Last edited by Frogm4n; 03-25-2025 at 08:13 PM. |

On the PW4 with 5.18.1, Settings => Device Options => Device Info => What's new? in the lower right side.

It's not just me, then. The Scribe doesn't have the pop up window that I was expecting and no What's new?

Looking at both Scribe what's new on the firmware download page, the Scribe didn't even get Recaps just the boilerplate bits. Quote:

Since I can't do it myself, could a mod remove the attachment on my previous comment? I forgot that it includes the serial of my device. I've blocked it on this attachment. EDIT: Nevermind. I discovered that I needed to Go Advanced to remove it. Last edited by Frogm4n; 03-25-2025 at 01:47 PM. |

I added a couple of freebies and downloaded them. calibre was able to copy the book from the Kindle to it's library. Usual low res B&W cover.
