DR1000S Price up $110 at eReaderOutfitters?!

Has anyone else noticed that the price for the DR1000S at eReaderOutfitters is now $859.00? I checked iRexShop, they still have it at $749.00.

Did I miss something? Is the price going up at iRexShop as well?

WTF, mate?!

Presumably due to the fall in the value of the US$ against the Euro.

The dollar has not weakened against the Euro, it has actually strengthened a small amount (I am pretty sure) since the last time I looked. The Exchange rate a few months ago was nearly 1.5 euro to 1 dollar.

I am so done with iRex. This company is seriously greedy!

Exclamation WOW $859

How much will the one be with wireless over a $1000 - I'm sorry - I bought one at $750 and I thought that was really above a realistic price point. I have a very specialized need going to law school and being able to read large law texts while traveling.

$860 seems like an impossible price point to sell such a specialized product. I think people will end up turning to other solutions at that price point like tablet pc's or netbooks

I am not sure I understand Irex's strategy here. It may be costly to produce, but there is really very little profit to be had with hardware only now-a-days.

They should have sold the product at a loss if they had to, to get market penetration and worked out an attractive content distribution arrangement themselves or even with a partner - they have mobi support yes but it is weak and not nearly as integrated as the Sony or Amazon offering. The real profit is in the content. I fear Irex may be doing themselves in with these kind of moves and that just makes me a little sad, as I believe this technology has a lot of potential

Take Apple, whether you hate them or love them, IREX should to take a few pages from the Apple handbook on how to market to the masses. I hope they get their act together

I noticed that this morning too. Seriously overpriced. The ability to read newspapers on it with Pressreader is the only thing that makes it attractive to me, but they would have to come down $300 for me to consider it.

Wow. I actually ordered mine last night for $750. Glad I did, for $860 I would have looked for something else.

Holy crap! I didn't have the money to get one at Christmas like I wanted, and now I need even more cash?!

Way to lose a customer. $750 was already quite a lot to spend for such a specialized product. Spending close to a thousand I'll just by a tablet PC and use it instead. At least that way I'll get color!

yeah, I was literally going to buy one TODAY. I was waiting for a check to come in. I would have bought one last night on iRexShop but I see they raised the price too. I guess I will stick with my PRS-505, or upgrade for half the price to a PRS-700BC.

Of course, knowing how greedy businesses operate, wait a few weeks, they will probably go "on sale" for $100.00. They then will expect us to thank them for giving us such a good deal!

Mark my words!

So there's a European company that feels it can charge a little extra in a foreign market... Big deal. There are a lot more US companies that still feel 1$=1Euro (Apple Inc, to name one).

Im with kleykenb

This is so funny see to US people complaining about the prices of European technology.

here we pay 1$=1€ for the most of the things, I really hope that this is the beginning of a new era where the euro is strong and are the americans who paid our cheaper products

Ah, the old "other people are screwing us, so lets screw them in return" argument.

Doesn't make either one good practice.

At this price range I'm giving up on iRex as well. I will wait to see if any new devices get announced in the next 2 weeks and probably get the Cybook Gen3 if not.
