How To Sort Out Kindle For PC Devices?
Amazon just updated my Kindle for pc. Now it has no books in it.
I got a message it was deregistered at one time there. So now I have 5 'devices' listed on Amazon. I've installed Kindle for PC twice in the last hour. I've got no idea where/which are the 'kindle for pc' apps that I've just downloaded. the list of 'old' 'kindle for pc' doesn't show anything new. Amazon wants me to tell it where to download my books to. I don't know. How can I find out? I don't which of these 'devices' is currently available to me. They're actually instances of the software installed on hard drives somewhere, aren't they? Well I've got no idea where they are. When in Kindle I can see no place where I can identify which 'kindle for pc' device it is. And I tried registering a kindle for pc and I thought it worked but I don't know the name of that 'device', was at no time given an opportunity to provide any names, don't see anything on the list with today's date... So I'm stuck. What to do? I've got Amazon open here with my account all logged in and all, fine. Over 300 books it says there. Okay. I've got Kindle for pc on my desktop. An icon, It opens to no books. That's all I know. Help ? |

When you open the Kindle for PC application you just installed, what does the title bar say in the upper left corner. It should say something like "David's Kindle for PC 2". When you go to Content and Devices => Devices =>Amazon apps installed on devices, you should be able to remove any Kindle for PC entries that do not match the name from the title bar. Under more actions, you can set that device as your default unless you are attempting to avoid KFX downloads with newer versions of the K4PC app.

I don't know about the KFX thing. What about if I was doing that?
p.s. it says 'arthur's kindle for pc' and it has two books in it. One from 2014 and one from 2018. AND: it doesn't show up in Amazon's list of 'devices' we can't install kindle for pc. give it a name. register it or whatever. then tell amazon to send our books there? Sorry if this is a dumb question. But: Why does it matter?
I fire up K4PC on my desktop or Surface and download my latest purchases and have never had a problem. I have no idea what Amazon has on file as to where I want books downloaded. |

Perhaps you have more than one Amazon account and registered it to the wrong one?
I suggest opening Kindle for PC and then checking Tools, Options, Registration to make sure that the Registered User matches the email address of your Amazon account. |

I am wondering if you have registered to the wrong Amazon account? Does Tools => Options => Registration show the correct email address associated with your Amazon account? Edit: Just read to the end of thread and @jhowell made the registration check suggestion before I posted. Last edited by DNSB; 02-15-2022 at 11:09 AM. Also check that you logged into the correct country. You can have multiple Amazon accounts tied to the same email that have different Kindle books linked to each. When you log in to Kindle for PC you can pick and if you pick the wrong one you get the wrong library. To add extra confusion for most Amazon countries you can use the same password and login without signing up again. So if you moved or logged into a VPN or something it could easily be picking the wrong country from which you bought books.

Read them online, yes. We're not always online here. 'Deliver' them to a device I don't know the location of simply means amazon stands ready to download to that instance of the app when it makes a connection. That instance possibly residing on a hard drive attached to a computer I haven't used for months or now scrapped.... etc? Means I've no idea where it's downloaded them to. You only have to look at your amazon account under devices to see what it thinks you have. Sounds like you only have one. Nice and simple. I don't have that advantage. I download a new version of kindle for pc in an attempt to reach that 'only have one' stage or to at least have something definitive pop up but instead no new device appears on Amazon at all. That means I can't tell Amazon to send to it. I can identify the 'new device' (learned that here), all I have to do is look at the top of the screen when running it. No trouble: there it is 'arthur's pc'. And: to make things even more incredible, it has two books in it from years ago! Must sound loony to you with your shockproof infallible simple setup. Well it looks the same way to me. And feels it. |

All done! Well I better not forget that. I have two amazon accounts it seems.
major hassle finding passwords. but we got there. I found I couldn't configure K4PC. Had to deregister and re-register. But now I've got my little library back How do I get those two books that are mysteriously in that other (mysterious) account from there over to here? |

Second, I have a total of 17 devices. I do not know which one Amazon considers to be my primary device. However, whether I open Kindle on my phone, tablet, laptop or Surface, I can see all of my books as all of the Amazon apps are logged in to my account. On my Windows PCs running Kindle for PC, I can right click on any of the books and select download. This downloads the book, which I import into Calibre and let the deDRM do its magic. I have always been able to do this on multiple desktop PCs, laptops and Windows tablets. On the Devices page, you can change the names to something easier to see. Just click 'Edit' next to the 'abrogard's Kindle for PC 7' if that would help. Again, why does it matter which device is considered primary? If you are not seeing your books, you are doing something wrong. Check the account you purchased your books under and check the account showing on whatever PC you are having trouble seeing your books on. Last edited by ZodWallop; 02-15-2022 at 05:16 PM. |

I don't remember the details, but you can sign up to share books between two accounts. I could share all of my books with my significant other, if they shared my same bad taste in books.

Is that a self portrait? How could a scholar and gentleman who looks like a Mexican bandit possibly have a poor taste in books? ![]() |
