Search half works?

I have a copy of "The Ultimate Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (5-in-1), which I use when I want to quickly find some of my favourite phrases. It's an epub from an old Kindle mobi, from back in my unenlightened Kindle user days

In both the mobi and the epub, if I search for a word, the search works, in that it finds every instance, but that's it. It doesn't jump to and/or highlight the search phrase, as shown in the attached screenshot.

I know this is a problem with the book not the Search itself, because it works as expected with other books. How can I fix this problem, preferably without having to buy another copy for sideloading into my Calibre library?

Kobo had a 42nd anniversary edition at a reasonable price, so I fixed the problem by buying a new copy.

Try converting to docx or txt then converting that back to epub.
