Stone Cold by English author Simon Clark (ISFDB, Wikipedia), a recipient of multiple British Fantasy Awards, is his standalone paranormal sci-fi horror novella set in the contemporary US, in which a group of fortune-seeking meteorite hunters are making plans to collect one which landed during the 1940s before the area floods, only to discover that the otherworldly stone harbours an ancient evil, as they do, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 2008 by Tasmanic Publications under the title Stone Cold Calling, was nominated for a BFA 2009 Best Novella and may have been later revised by the author, with a more recent copyright date of 2013 if the Venture frontmatter isn't just inaccurate.
