Communication error with Kobo Aura 2nd Ed

Since upgrading to calibre 2.81 and Kobo Aura 2nd ed FW 4.3.8945 I get the following error:

I can see the books on the kobo, calibre presents an overview of all books and allows me to send books to the kobo device where it can be accessed just fine.
I read in other postings that there seems to be a kobo database change since the last FW upgrades (4.3.8842 ?). Is it possible that that caused this error?

In particular "collections" seem to be affected.

Kobo bumped the database version, but didn't change anything in the database structure. They fiddled with the data, but not anywhere that affects the driver.

The error means the database is corrupt. You can check this using the Kobo Utilities plugin or an SQLite database management tool. If you have a recent database backup, you can restore that. Otherwise, the solution is to sign out of the Kobo account on the device and let the device create a new database when you do the setup.

I was afraid of that.
The peculiar thing is that this happened between 2 FW upgrades of kobo (4.3.8871 -> 4.3.8945) and the latest calibre upgrade without any change on the kobo itself. Oh well, shit happens.

Restoring is in progress.
