[Bug/Strange behavior] Can't paste cover from clipboard to GIMP
Hi
![]() For some time, I've noticed some unexpected behavior. Reproduction: - Open metadata window - Right-click on cover, choose "Copy Cover" - Go to GIMP, choose "Edit -> Paste As -> New Image" GIMP will say "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste." However, Windows Paint *will* paste the image, without doing anything else (no new copy needed). On the other hand, if I do "Copy Image" in Firefox, GIMP *will* paste the image. At this time, Calibre is the only 'source' program I've tested from which GIMP won't paste data. Windows 10, 64-bit, fully updated. Calibre 2.77 GIMP 2.8.18 Firefox 51.0 I hope this is of some use to fixing this, as I don't know if it's a problem in Calibre, or in GIMP. |

Has to be in GIMP, I can copy a cover from calibre and paste into anything that accepts an image as a pasted object - tried IrfanView, Paint.net, Word, Evernote, Writer, Paintshop Pro, and Excel.
I gave up using The GIMP because I was always running into problems like this. BR |

Yes; but the other way around is also true: I can paste anything into GIMP, except copied covers from Calibre.
Even so, I'd love to replace GIMP by a different program. I quit using Photoshop after Adobe went cloud-only; I stopped doing professional photography just a bit earlier. Maybe I should re-install PS 5.1 I still have from those days and use it as long as it works. Last edited by Katsunami; 01-24-2017 at 06:14 PM. |

It may not be the exact solution to your current problem, but rather than opening 'Edit metadata', if you right-click on the cover in the Book Details panel the last option is 'Open cover with...' which gives you the option to specify any application(s) you like to open the cover. Maybe GIMP will work better this way (I haven't tried it, though).

Heh. 5 years of using Calibre, and I never ever right-clicked the cover in the Details pane. That solution does work, thanks. Sometimes, I like the cover that comes with a book, but I load it into GIMP to resize it to 1500 pixels on the long side if it's taller.

My old CS4.? worked last time I had it installed - on Win7, I'd be surprised if it didn't work on Win10. I have much older image related tools working in Win 10.

If all you ever want to do with the cover is to make sure it doesn't exceed a particular size then I've found the most convenient solution to be the option in Prefs - Tweaks , snappily named 'The maximum width and height for covers saved in the calibre library'. Then calibre does all the work for you every time you add/change a cover.
