Pls help with creating a custom column
I would like to create a Yes/No column which shows if the metadata of a book has been downloaded or not.

How can I do this?

the question is:
How do you know what constitutes 'Downloaded"?
Some of it comes from the book (and some is pretty sparse )

Not all sites provide the same metadata fields (see the tick boxes in the Configure Metadata sources )


searching on <the_fieldname>:false , will tell you if it is empty

The Quality check Plugin has many checks to help find and 'normalize' metadata entries

The real question: What do you consider Valid Metadata?
GIGO
40 (mostly redundant) Tags?
Sales Hype (comments) instead of a clear synopsis of the work?
A Sample chapter in the Comments?

@mamaijee - I do it with a couple of custom columns, a yes/no and a date which I edit in the Book List, viz

The date is useful when the Meta column is a red-cross, it gives me an indication when I last tried to 'fill in the blanks'.

I dont want to edit in the book list. If the meta data is downloaded can Calibre recognise that and fill in the column with a yes or a no?

NO

It has no way of knowing what column or when the Metadata is complete

All it calibre knows is when a SINGLE query fails to get a return

If you use the bulk metadata download option you will see it has a setting to Mark rejected downloads (bottom left of Review window window), perhaps you could make use of that in some way.

In the bulk metadata download option I do not have a setting to Mark rejected downloads

That is not the screen for bulk metadata download but bulk edit.

At the bottom of the Single MD Editor

But I don't see any 'what to do if fails' type selection

Post download never noticed and I review all the time
only on the ctrl-d method, since you do not get the 'review' option (since it is inherent in the MDE version on the download)
