Hi! Battery of Kindle keyboard from 2011 died, but even after getting the new one and doing factory reset the Kindle is not working properly. Sometimes I am able to open and read books, but it freeze and restarts very often. It seems that there is the latest firmware and I don't know what to do to solve the problem. It seems as it is a problem with software. Maybe battery died during the updating the latest firmware in March, because at that time i noticed more problems. Is there any chance to repair this? Thanks! |

You can buy a replacement battery online. Kindles intermittenly need more power than can be supplied by the power cable alone (especially with 3G), and these power spikes can cause it to reboot. You need a (non-dead) battery for reliable use. They are not difficult to change (provided your cover is not glued on, where a hair dryer may be used to soften the glue). I had the same problem (and the same symptoms) on a PW3 I just got. The battery was obviously bad upon opening my kindle (the battery was "puffed" -- inflated with gas). I swapped in a good battery salvaged from a dead PW2, and now the PW3 is much more reliable (no more spontaneous reboots). Last edited by geekmaster; 05-12-2016 at 10:49 PM. |

I have replaced the battery, but the problem still exist. Kindle is still rebooting and freezing very often. Is it possible to completely reinstall firmware? I suspect that battery died during the last firmware update and now the software is not OK. How to reinstal everything?

Sounds to me it running too hot. IF its in a Cover take it off Turn it off let it cool. Then try it again.

The free software Kubrick will reinstall a fresh 3.4 software. You'll need to update it to 3.4.2 after that. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=206064 The cover removal is a good suggestion if you have it in one of the Amazon leather unlighted covers. The clips which that one mounts with have been known to have the paint wear off causing problems with the kindle operation. |

Thanks for the link. I will try to do that, hoping that it is explained on the level "for dummies", since I am not experienced with this. I have nothing to lose.

If you can't give us any details, at least try to give us some hints of what you did and what the result of each was. Remember, we can't see over your shoulder and only a few of us can channel into your mind.

It didn't look so informative so I didn't save it the last time. For your info I did all the procedure from the post: 1. I made a bootable USB Stick 2. Copied the "boot.iso" for K3 into the existing "efi/boot/" directory on the Kubrick USB stick. 3. Booted laptop from the Kubrick device, or I thought it was booted. When the boot from USB is selected the boot process started, some data is listed on the screen for some time and an ERROR message appears on the screen. I will send the exact message later... K3 was connected to laptop during the boot process. 4. "The debrick wizard should start automatically. The only keys you really need from there on are the arrow keys, and the ENTER key. Follow the instructions on the screen." I was not offered to choose any selection, arrow keys or other commands. I use WIN7 professional on a HP laptop that came without preinstalled system. |

When using Kubrick with a K3, you don't connect the kindle to the computer until it prompts you to do so. I don't know if that is your only problem using Kubrick, but that is one error.

That is (one) of the points of a LiveCD, Kubrick is a Linux LiveCD, it is running Linux ram resident. On the other hand, the laptop hardware **IS** very relevant. Is this a 'recent' laptop design or has it been around for a few years? I.E: Could it have be a laptop design more recent than the Kubrick build? Does the laptop have any USB-2 ports, or only USB-3? If it has any USB-2 ports - use those **NOT** USB-3. Including the HP model number might help learning why Kubrick does not support your laptop hardware. Quote:
The general answer: Try an older PC or Laptop device, this one is probably too new for the hardware support in Kubrick.

Thanks for info. The laptop is HP probook 450, 1 year old. There are USB2 and 3 ports, the same result with both of them and with K3 connected or not. The message is: "The Kubrick Wizard could not be started. Sorry, If you have some Linux experience, you may want to troubleshoot the problem by looking at..." Before that there is something like: "failed to mount /dev/sr0 - probably because no media inserted. Missing required Java files. Kubrick will not work." At the moment I don't have older machine to try it. Could it be that K3 doesn't respond if the wizard is trying to connect? At the moment K3 doesn't want to turn on each time when I want. Sometimes it turns on after one minute and first restarting and then shows the content. |

The Wizard is just a GUI front end to the various programs. The problem now is that Linux is failing to boot. From the message, it is not recognizing the hardware the boot media is connected to. (Try one of the USB-2 ports for the LiveUSB stick also). The Kubrick Linux build has support for many different types of older hardware - It should work on anything older than what you have. Since it does not touch any of the installed software on the device, I.E: it runs only in RAM, even a borrowed PC would be alright. |
