Free Shipping with Amazon

I go to buy an exercise pen. I need another one for the bunnies. Well I notice at checkout that Amazon has changed the free shipping option again. Now you need to spend $49 to get free shipping, up by $14. UGH!!!!!!!!!! Amazon is getting to be on my list of companies to hate. And yeah Wal-mart is on that list and I do not purchase anything at Wal-mart.

I don't know. It costs money to get things places and if you don't want to have your items launched into your backyard by FedEx when it arrives then maybe we should be paying more for our shipping. Just thinking out loud. I love free shipping, but maybe we should pay a little for things to be delivered with care. |

Amazon increased shipping and it has happened in the last 6 weeks. Did not have the shipping charge for anything during Christmas. If they want to charge more that is fine but don't hide it until I am checking out and them tell the customer. That is just bad business! I get that it cost more and everything is going up except my paycheck. But don't hide the charges. Hiding the charge makes me wonder what else they are hiding from me.

I completely agreed that is poor user experience. Care doesn't happen because company profit is what matters most. We built the system and we built the reasons things are the way they are. |

Having seen the inside of a courier warehouse, I don't think paying more will improve the service. It'll just get creamed off in profit and minimum salary staff will keep mistreating the packages.

I wouldn't mind returning to the lower free shipping threshold of $25 and waiting a bit longer for delivery. Then, when I'm in a hurry, I'd pay for expedited shipping.

Made sure the product was in Prime. This was on the screen. Price: $8.49 & FREE Shipping on orders over $49. I did not have to put it in my cart. It was right there in the description.

(a) are you a Prime member? If not, that might make a difference. I am, so any item "in Prime" doesn't have any extra shipping charge for me. (b) I have, however, run into items that say "Free Shipping" (but not in Prime). As a Prime member, I never even paid attention to the "but you need $xx in the cart" so I was QUITE surprised to find that "Free Shipping" didn't really mean "Free Shipping". It meant "Free Shipping if you buy $xx amount at once". I've gotten used to just clicking the "One Click" button, so this Free != Free concept was quite a shock. So yeah, the increase to $49 will be even more of a shock. If an item says Free Shipping, I expect Free Shipping. They ought to come up with a Free49 Shipping term, to describe this policy. [Not that I've run up against it yet; I can't find an item.]

If you are Prime, you will not see that.

Ahh, okay. But my (b) paragraph still stands. Even Prime members must include $xx amount of stuff in their cart (at least, on one purchase that was true for me, because they charged me shipping) BUT we are not told about the $xx limit. All we see is "Free Shipping". That seems like a real ripoff!

I have never had that happen with my husband's prime account unless you are talking the add-on items in which case I think the minimum is $25. Otherwise, no minimum as I have spent less than $20 several times. Now also not everything on Amazon is available for Prime shipping. I found many things last week that were not eligible. I also found things with free shipping without prime. Note I was looking for a new dish drainer. I found a new idea instead.

It wasn't an add-on. It was free shipping, without mentioning prime. I did complain afterwards, and suggested that it wasn't obvious that "free shipping" really meant "free35 shipping" (at the time). PERHAPS they've fixed it since. Or maybe I only imagined that it had said free shipping. The same item says $4.99 shipping right now. Cue Twilight Zone music ...... |

I have seen that happen with ebook prices a time or two.
