Night Shift is kind of amazing

So I updated my iPad mini to iOS 9.3 beta, and I've been testing out the new Night Shift feature.

For those of you who haven't heard about it, Night Shift basically takes the blue out of your screen after the sun goes down (giving your display an orangish hint), helping to get your circadian rhythms back in check. It's essentially Apple ripping off an idea that f.lux (https://justgetflux.com) invented for the Mac, based on research that says blue light messes up your sleep patterns.

After a couple of weeks, I'm definitely sold, and I might stop reading on my Kobo Aura at night. I've been finding it much easier to fall asleep, and it's been too consistent to call it a placebo.

Anyone else try this yet? Night Shift seems like a godsend for anyone who's wanted to read on their iPads at night, but didn't want to have their sleep cycles messed up.

(Note: I'm using Night Shift with both the iBooks and Gerty app in their respective dark modes.)

I haven't tried it on the iPad, but I use f.lux all day on my Mac -- because my eyes seem to be really sensitive to working all day at a computer screen. The dimmed screen (oranged, I guess, really) causes less squinting by the end of the day.

Note that I have to FOOL f.lux into thinking it is night-time during my daytime shift. But that's no big deal, for f.lux. If the iPad uses the REAL clock, then one wouldn't be able to get this effect at other times of the day. And that would be less worthwhile, for me!

I think iOS allows you to set a custom schedule. Also, the latest beta has a toggle in Control Center.

You could turn it on 24/7 in the iOS 9.3 beta, real time scheduling is just an addition.

I've been using f.lux for a couple of years now on my iPads (jailbreak-ed).

During the day with the lowest possible settings for the daytime (3400 K), and at night with the lowest for the night (2300 K), using older versions for iOS 5 and 7.

The app Twilight does a very similar (and good) job in Android, for those interested.
