Treat it like you do one with no front light. It's what I do and I've had no issue for 1 year 1 month. Also, keep it in a case. No sleeves unless the Reader fits in the sleeve with the case.

Good case at all times, avoid twisting/bending forces as well as knocks, don't leave in a hot (car, direct sunlight on a very hot day, etc) or very cold area. Lighting makes no difference to the care needed.

Feed with good books and tickle the batteries with current to help with the digestive process. Undertake lengthy reading sessions to prevent TBR constipation. ;p

If it is one with IR touch, avoid getting gunk in front of the IR transmitters and receivers?

I've not done anything special with my KPW1 in the three years I'm reading on it.

I just dust it to get dust out of the ridges. Once in a while I take it out of it's case, dust/brush the case (using a soft clothing brush: it has felt on the inside), clean the e-reader with a damp cloth, and put it back into its case again.

Did the same with my Kindle Touch too, which I've used for over a year.

I do the same with my tablet and notebook as well. Replace 'case' with 'bag' for the notebook

Never had a problem.

Canned air also works very well to clean out under the bezel for the IR. If that fails, then I get out a soft bristled brush only used for dusting, etc.

I use a microfiber cleaning cloth like you use for cleaning glasses. I've never needed a brush.

I don't trust those moistened cleaning wipes. I've heard too many things about the solvents they use eroding the screen after a few years.

I have 2 ways of cleaning mine. Most of the time I simply wipe it down with a microfiber cloth. That does the job and won't scratch and it keeps it clean.

Those few times I've gotten something on it that won't come off easily with microfiber I'll soak a sponge in water with a tiny bit of dish soap and then ring it out until I simply can't get any more from it. I don't want it wet, just barely damp. Then I scrub the screen gently with that and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth.

I've rarely needed to use a sponge. It's usually when I accidently touch it with greasy fingers while eating and reading. Usually I keep a finger grease free but every now and then I'll get absorbed in the reading and forget. So far that's always taken care of it.

I've been using ereaders for years, beginning with the Kindle 3. Before that if you count the years with the Palm Pilot and the Franklin Ebookman. So far I've never damaged a screen.

I keep at least one ereader in a case at all times for when I leave the house. The one I read with at home never has a case. Again, I've never damaged one. I'm reasonably careful with them. I set them face down on a soft surface, usually a spare mousepad that I try to keep handy. I have a mousepad on my night stand and another one in the living room where I usually set my Kindle down.

I'm reasonably careful but no more than that. I've never damaged one. In fact the only devices I've damaged in years were a Nook HD in it's case that I dropped on a sidewalk, and an old Archos 4.3" player that had a book on it and I was reading it as I walked into the bathroom and when I stumbled it went into the toilet.

The only other one I've had damaged was a Kindle I loaned to a neighbor with a book on it. It was in the case but it came back with a scratch on the screen. Amazon very nicely replaced it for me in warranty even though I told them it was a user error.

These things are pretty sturdy. Just give them reasonable care and they'll last just fine.
