Aura HD Restoring Every Time Plugged In

Just like the title says, my Aura HD shows the connect to computer screen (hte image one) when not plugged in. so i plug it into the computer and nothing happens. i plug it into the wall charger and screen flashes black and white twice, then goes to the restoring/reinitializing screen with the squares in the bottom left. when that passes i go back to the screen that has the image of the kobo, and a laptop, and a cord between the two with arrows. i left it to charge over night thinking it was totally dead but .... nothing. it worked fine previously, i just havent used it in a few months so i assumed dead battery. but ... 9+ hours of charging it can't still be dead can it? I tried the paperclip in the bottom as well but that didn't do anything

also, no warranty whatsoever, it was bought secondhand -_-
