Post library interface

My prs350 is dying. After a lot of debate I bought a Voyage instead of an H2o simply because I could get it faster. It's a beautiful reader. But I'm not crazy about the interface. I sideload books and like to keep a lot on the reader. It appears I can see ALL books or spend a lot of time creating collections and then see ALL in collections. I'd like something with more of a tree format like Collections - Authors - Titles. How does the library on the H2O work?

Same. Collections. Shelves. No folder navigation if that's what you were looking for.

Calibre can populate it for you so you don't have to create collections manually. Maybe it can do that too for the Voyage?

If you don't want Calibre to do this for you, there's my AutoShelf mod which just creates one collection per folder so you get a kind of folder navigation. Still database backed though, so you don't get rid of the long "updating database" procedure...

Thanks Calibre makes collections but they don't seem to transfer to the Voyage.

Tried to buy a H2o to compare but the website wouldn't take my card. Seems to be a common problem? Any other way to get one to the US?

Follow all the instructions in the sticky thread here on shelf management.

Collection management works like a charm (and it DOES transfer updates).

Do make sure that Metadata Management is set to AUTO.

@PeterT. Are you sure of this? It is my understanding that there is as yet no jailbreak for the Voyage, therefore no KUAL and Shelf Management.

@illdanoch. You are far better buying your H2O from Chapters Indigo. They deliver quickly and the reports about them on Mobileread seem to be very positive. My H2O was delivered to Australia in 1 week, though they do tend to quote much longer delivery times.

I'm not sure how collections were presented on your Sony. I never used them on my PRS600 when I was using it. It sounds like you may be able to achieve what you want on the H2O by creating a collection for each author.

There is no jailbreak for the Voyage. So if you want to have Calibre manage your collections for you automatically, you picked the wrong Reader. As long as you are within your 30 days, you can return the Voyage and order an H2O from Chapters. I got my H2O in 4 days.

The only way to manage collections on the Voyage is manually and the more books you put on, the more annoying that gets.

You can also buy from Chapters, even if you're in the US. That's how a few forum users have ordered their H2Os anyway.

When I ordered my H2O from Kobo, I found the website seemingly rejected my card, but in reality my bank just required that I authorize the purchase.

As far as how the library looks you can either view the raw library, or a list of collections. However you can have the same book listed in multiple collections with ease, using Calibre it's easy as pie to create and manage those collections. I've set up collections for 'Reading' the various series, and genres I have on my H2O.

I dunno how Kindle handles their collections, though it sounds like without jailbreaking it's a pain to manage them.

I apologize. I misread the original question and thought you were taking about collection management on KOBO.

Another Amazon customer lost because they "saved" their devices from us evil jailbreak users... sigh.

This is exactly why I won't upgrade my Kindle (even if this one breaks) -- I have no time to waste managing collections by hand.

I don't get why Amazon has to take away features users want instead of keeping them. They took away the memory card slot, TTS, audio, and computer manageable collections. To me is seem Amazon is going backwards instead of forwards.

I'm with you on the computer manageable collections.

There is no real excuse for going to extra effort to annihilate software effects, no matter how justified they can be said to be re:stripping out hardware components to save expense.

If you have Audible support, audio, and TTS, then you should also have a card slot for storing music and/or Audible audiobooks. The internal memory might not be enough for audiobooks, music, and eBooks.
