Adding tags to K4 (non-touch) homescreen books
Ok, I've searched and searched and found nothing on what I want to do, but plenty on the opposite.
I want to do something similar to what the Kindle already does with the "new" or "sample" tags listed next to books on the homescreen. However, instead of new or sample, I want to make my own tag designations for books. YES, I use the collections feature. It's suitable for separating my books into the categories I want. 1. I download and read fanfiction on my kindle and would like to add such tags as "WIP" or "FIN" next to the titles on the homescreen without clogging up adding such things to the actual title of the book. No, separating them into collections designating such a thing is not a feasible option. 2. Some of the novels I read have multiple sequels and the order is not always indicated in the title. A simple "Book #" or "seq #" (etc) would be much more convenient for quick browsing than opening each book to see if it's the next on the list. I don't always read sequels one after the other, sometimes reading other books in between for a break. I apologize if I come off a bit abrasive, but I've asked around other sites and not had any help in this beyond the obvious methods, which I've already been employing. Please, please, any help would be appreciated. If it's a bit of coding I need to tweak somewhere or even just to tell me it's something not possible at this time with a major intensive overhaul of some feature I shouldn't mess around with. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think you'd get a better response in the developer's forum.

You can always use Calibre to change book titles, to something like Series x - book 01 - title.
To change the workings of the Kindle OS would be a big undertaking. What if the book is in multiple collections? There is no room for that. |

Sorry to say, I don't think anyone has ever thought along these lines before. It would probably require extensive modifications to the rendering framework, and new exth fields in the books themselves. And you'd be starting from scratch.
Although I agree it would be nice to have support for series and tagging, I don't think I'd be willing to hack it for free, especially since it would need reimplementing for every fw revision. You might think it worthwhile for yourself, of course... ![]() The path of least resistance is to do as many here have done, and use calibre plugboards to abuse the title and dynamically insert the series info during the send-to-device or export actions. My books for example have titles that look like "title (subseries, Book #) (series, Book #)" Last edited by eschwartz; 01-27-2015 at 02:59 PM. |
