Calibre library getting deleted on linux server

Hello,

I am using calibre on a iMac. Because it took so much memory i decided to store the library on a linux server. At first this went great but after a while the library got deleted out of nothing. I could set it back using the restore function and everything was back.

Now a few weeks later it happens again. I again used the restore function and I can see the folders back on the server but I don't see the .epub files in the folders. Also calibre doesn't show the books. I generated a .db file so I could might use this to restore the books. There are now 2 priorities for me:

1. Getting my old books back.
2. Preventing this in the future from happening.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to read this ==>> I am getting errors with my calibre library on a server/NAS/Networked Drive

Bottom line is, if you put your library on a server of some sort it may work and it may not, and even if it works it may fail at some future point in time.

Don't put your live library on a server, for backup its fine.

@Zeros - Calibre doesn't backup your library, that's up to you, same as it is for your other data, such as photos, documents, music etc etc.

It does backup its database but it does that within the library.

Do you have your books on a device, like an ipad or kindle, if so then you should be able reconstruct the library at least in part from your device(s).

Let us know if you want to do that and someone who's done it should be able to give you some guidance.

The bottom line is if you haven't been taking backups then its probably safe to assume that there aren't any, but hopefully you'll have most of your books on your devices.
