E-reader Stand
Hi everyone,
I am doing research on a new type of e-reader stand and I'm trying to get some feedback from e-reader users like myself to determine if it will be beneficial to the community. Below is a link to a short survey; it would really help me out if some of you could take it. Any further remarks in this thread are welcome, too, of course. Thank you! http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=pczbshocqo32tyy374679 |

I think a stand should have the minimum of moving parts and should be made of sturdy material. I bought the stand I use now at Amazon. Stand And of course a stand should be as affordable as possible too.

It's just another thing to carry.
wherever I am, I almost always find something to lean it up against or just hold it in one hand. For me it doesn't, offer enough convenience to bother with it. but that's just me, I guess some people will like it. Perhaps for the larger Aura ereaders it might be good, but I don;t want an ereader that size. |

[QUOTE=pidgeon92;2884971]I only use my stand when I eat. I have this one, and it's perfect for holding my Kindles as well as my heavy iPad at multiple angles. It also folds flat for storage.
Where can you get this one? |

That particular stand is great for a full-sized iPad (we have two of these stands hereabouts). For a smaller form factor, like a Kindle Wifi or iPad mini, I find the positions it can be in (viewing angles) are much more limited. Sometimes I'd like to have it at a shallower angle than that stand allows. (If you tilt the stand back past a certain point, the smaller devices aren't tall enough to touch the top point of the stand, i.e., they would fall through.)
For traveling, for my iPad, I use a case that rotates around and under to make a stand (vertical or horizontal, with several angle choices), then closes to protect the screen. What I haven't found is the ideal stand for reading while lying down. |

Here's mine. I made it out of a bit of old oak floorboard and it cost me nothing at all (except time). It needs a little bit sticking out of the back as otherwise it tends to fall over.
![]() There's a small chip out of the nearest corner. When I made one for my wife I did it slightly better. Bother of them are designed so they will also support a book made of paper. Last edited by Araucaria; 08-10-2014 at 01:14 PM. Reason: Moderator deleted image for being oversize |

My dad uses the recipe holder we have in the kitchen for propping his tablet up.
![]() I just fold my iPad's Clamcase back and stand it up that way. I remember seeing someone using a business card holder for the Kindle Fire when it first came out too. Something with a strong base would probably work in bed. That could get expensive though. Answered your survey. ![]() |

I really appreciate everyone who is taking the survey! It is very helpful for what I'm researching. I'll post updates as soon as I'm able to say anything noteworthy, but so far things are looking good.
Araucaria, I like the design for your stand! I've made several things out of old floorboards and they're some of my favorite things I own. Crich70, I agree that stands should be as cheap as possible. Andrewburt, I've seen a stand that stands from the floor and would work well while lying down, google: LEVO Deluxe iPad Floor Stand. It is quite costly at about $160. Jessica Lares, the things people use to hold these up is endless. I love the creativity shown in the designs I saw when I google imaged "homemade kindle stand". Thanks for taking the survey! |

E-reader Stand
I answered the survey. Here are my additional thoughts.
When out and about I use a Moshi VersaCover on my Retina iPad mini. It's so versatile and I like not having to carry a separate stand when out for just the day. It adds very little bulk and it's easy to manipulate since there is only one way to fold it. There aren't many cases that do portrait mode without a lot of bulk. Of course one drawback is it only has three angles, but that hasn't been a problem for me. It's surprisingly stable when in portrait mode. At home I have a PadPivot (at desk/table) and a Prop 'n Go Lite (in bed) that let's me use my mini at multiple angles. The PadPivot can be used on your lap too. I can't use it that way because of my disability. |

At work, I just prop my reader up against my insulated mug at lunch.
