Metadata backup runs without prompting
I have Calibre on Ubuntu on my netbook where it doesn't do this. But...
I reinstalled Ubuntu and Calibre on a dual-boot Windows 7, Ubuntu 1.5. I always update, everything is current. Because I have dual hard drives, one for Ubuntu and one for Windows, I copied my calibre library to the Ubuntu drive. This is a logical drive on the Ubuntu drive because of limits in the installation program I used. I mounted it, Calibre opened it, every thing was rainbows except it is constantly updating the metadata. I've let it run to 0, thinking that would do it but the next time I started Calibre, It began updating metadata. 5,000 to go. Yikes. Too big a drag on the system and on calibre. |

Yes, calibre will automatically make a backup of metadata into OPF-files stored alongside your ebooks.
It is a low priority task and most likely it will not impact performance of other tasks. If you find this annoying you can speed it up so that it finish quickly. Run this command: (Change the path, obviously.) Code:
calibre-debug -c "from calibre.library import db; db = db('path to library'); db.dump_metadata(tuple(db.all_ids()))" https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=183693 If it still keeps updating metadata there is something else wrong. Check the timestamps of the files for instance. Perhaps they have invalid dates? Last edited by Adoby; 10-02-2013 at 03:08 AM. |

I fixed my problem. Because the library and program are on different logical drives, calibre treated it like the e-reader and updated. I turned off update cached metadata and it stopped.
It does really drag on my system and I did set it to lowest of low priorities. This puter is 12 years old. ![]() Thank you for your response. Last edited by sobi; 10-02-2013 at 03:21 AM. Reason: forgot thanks |

I was thinking...I didn't find that until I plugged my nook in. It treated the logical drive as a device, but not honestly and openly, it registered no device on the toolbar.
