Oh no! Her Amelia Peabody series is very much loved by readers! May her spirit rest in Egypt - where it felt at home!

I never got into the Amelia Peabody books, but I enjoyed the books she wrote as Barbara Michaels.

I loved all her books, both as Peters and Michaels; there was only one of her Michaels books that I didn't care for. I'll really miss not getting a new Amelia Peabody book, I loved how she was bringing the younger generation of characters to the forefront of the stories. RIP |

It's always sad when a popular author passes, but thank gawd they leave their books behind to be read, experienced, and loved forever.

Last year I read her first Amelia Peabody book, Crocodile on the Sandbank, written under the pseudonym Elizabeth Peters. It made me feel good and really care what happened to her characters. I liked it so much I bought the sequel, The Curse of the Pharaohs. It remains, for now, on my to-be-read list; but not for much longer. It's time to re-visit Amelia Peabody and her Egypt. Rest in peace, Barbara Mertz. |

Oh, I am sorry to hear this news. One of my favourite authors. As an "Egyptophile" I love her "Amelia Peabody" series.

I've never heard of her or her series before. I do agree with Kennyc though that it is good that an author's works can go on after their passing. Same goes for actors as well.

I"m sad, condolences to her family. I bought two of her Amelia Peabody books that were on sale a long time ago when I had purchased my first ereader. I really enjoyed them. I will have to get a few more to read.

I had never heard of her, but because if this thread, I picked up her first Amelia Peabody book Crocodile On The Sandbank because I do like cozy mysteries. Now I've decided that Gail Carriger (The Parasol Protectorate) *must* have read these novels. Anyway, enjoying the novel and though Ms. Mertz is gone, it looks like I have a few more books to read. |

Amazon (US) and B&N (US) have Crocodile on the Sandbank on sale for $2.99 right now in case anyone's interested in checking it out.
