Nexus 7 Prices Falling -- 2nd Gen Coming Soon?

Staples lowered the prices on the Nexus 7 yesterday to $179 (16GB) and $199 (32GB). Looks like the start of a clearance sale to me.

So, when will the next Nexus 7 hit the shelves?

I've seen many rumors that the 2nd Gen will come out (or be announced) at the end of this month. No idea if they're true of course.

I love the Nexus 7 so I'm definitely excited about the new one. I'm betting its announced soon.

I hope the new Nexus 7 will be the same price as the current. ($200 16GB, not the clearance price)

The rumours seem to be getting stronger.

There were some specs leaks a few weeks ago, apparently it has a 1920x1200 screen and uses the Snapdragon 600 CPU, so it should be a nice upgrade from the existing model.

I wish I knew when the thing would be likely to arrive in customers' hands.

We need an Android device at work for testing mobile apps, and I recommended a Nexus 7, as it is as close to a reference design as you can get.

I'd hate for the thing to become obsolete as soon as it arrives, but I don't think we want to wait two months to get it.

This particular price drop could be a response to the recent and widely publicised drop of the HP Slate 7:
