Hello to all from Canada.
I'm very new to the community of ereaders so please be patient with me.The first question I have, if any one can help me is. Is it possible to convert rar fiels to epub? If someone can let me know it would be fantastic. thanks

Your question doesn't make any sense, I'm afraid. A RAR file is not an eBook format - it's just a compressed archive file that can have absolutely anything in it. ePub files are eBooks. What is in the specific RAR files that you're referring to in your post?

If you have a file that is .rar it is a compressed file and needs to be decompressed. A free app for opening rar files is 7 Zip. I personally use WinRAR, but it's not free.
