Search within a book?
Forgive me if I'm being dense, but I can't seem to find a way to search for text within a book on the Vox? I'm assuming there is such a way, as it can be done on the Kobo Touch...

If you are using Aldiko tap & hold your finger on a word until it turns yellow and a box pops up. One of your choices is "search", others are copy, google and share. Can't help with kobo app as I don't use it.

I believe that feature is currently missing from the kobo software.

The Touch and the Kobo app for the Vox are different and have different teams working on them. I feel like this is something Kobo might implement for the Vox in the future, but at the moment, the Kobo reader app for the Vox is fairly elementary. At least we can lock it in portrait now!

There was a big improvement in the Vox reader at the last update. So far there has been an update each month (November, December) so there may well be another one in January. After the last update, the Vox reader was no longer the bare bones one it started out as. Just from reading this forum, Kobo probably has more important priorities than tweaking the reader at this point.

Thanks for the clarification, mes amis. I am rather surprised to hear that text search is missing - seems such a basic feature of an ereading app. Let's hope it's added in the next update.
I take it by 'reader' you mean the Touch, etc? |

I believe they mean the Kobo reading app on the Vox. The Aldiko app searches. It is a software issue not a hardware one.

Yes, I understand that it's a software issue. Hopefully they will add this function in the future. I guess the earlier poster could have meant the Kobo app on the Vox - it's just that earlier in their comment they were expressing the likelihood of another big update to the Vox software, with the implication that the Kobo reading app would be included in that. I hope the Kobo app is reasonably high on the Vox team's priority list. It is fundamentally an e-reading device after all

No, I meant the Kobo Vox reader. I don't have the Touch, or the original Kobo but know someone who does. Since those are totally different platforms from the Vox, it's understandable all the features aren't duplicated in the Vox reader, at least not yet.

Some of us feel it is more important for them to fix fundamental system issues like the sleep of death than add new features to the reader app. Especially when aldiko has all the features you would want.

True enough. I jus assumed that the Vox would at least have feature parity with the Touch, given the more advanced nature of the Android OS.

Of course, fundamental issues are fundamental issues and obviously need to be fixed. But the Vox is an e-reading device at heart so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the reader app to be near the top of the development team's priority list. As for aldiko and other apps, well, for me at least, Kobo's single biggest selling point has always been the Reading Life feature set, with its innovative bells and whistles. If you start using other reading apps, then the Vox simply becomes a rather underwhelming Android tablet.

To me the Vox is also primarily a reader with bells and whistles. I do agree that the reader app should have all the features of all the readers out there so there would be no need to install any third party readers like Aldiko, or even Overdrive or Kindle Reader. I do like the fact that the Vox reader can access the built-in dictionary and doesn't need WiFi turned on like the others, but I wish the Merriam Webster wasn't the only choice. I wonder how much users outside North America like it? |

In the UK and i find the dictionary is fine, not had any issues with it, read about missing words, but not come across this
Highlighting a word in the reading app and getting definition could do with improving, seems to pick a random word and have to scroll around to highlight the one I wanted |
