Hi everyone, looking for an assist?
Hello to one and all, and warmest wishes to you also. I have been tearing my hair out over a problem with Calibre that I just cannot crack and wonder whether anyone here can assist?

My problem is this... In trying to convert my existing mobi files to ePub, in order to read my books on my iPhone & iPad, some just will not convert. I had thought they should all be in mobi format, however when I looked at the offending file extensions on my Mac, it tells me they are "mobi.bc!" . Does anyone know if this is an error, or have I gone badly wrong somewhere along the way? I am sure they all sat nicely on my Kindle, but I got rid of that, thinking the conversion process of Calibre would save having to carry two or three devices around!

It also says this format ("mobi.bc!") is a Unix Executable program. My brother, in the US, put all my Kindle books onto a hard drive for me when I visited, as I thought he is more tech-savvy then I am, but he does not know what to do either!!

Can anyone assist, or have I just lost around 200 odd books?

I think that .bc denotes an incomplete download from BitComet torrent engine. Does that make sense to you?

Why they would have been readable on your Kindle is a bit of a mystery though.

Bilbo, I am now unsure whether my brother did convert the files or swap them for some he'd already got in his collection! I've messaged him to ask and will let you know, once he replies. If he has just been lazy, I'll be very p*d as I will no longer have the books!!

If they have been downloaded from torrents, they are almost undoubtedly illegal, so that's probably a good thing. If your brother has - doubtless inadvertently - been downloading books illegally, you're better off not having them.
