				Kindles cheaper after Christmas?

I was given a hefty Amazon gift card as a retirement gift and I want to buy a Kindle Touch. Does anyone know if the prices drop after Christmas, or should I go ahead and get it now? |

All I know is that you shouldn't buy it at walmart if you're in Canada, they tack on and extra $50 bucks.

If you wait for (US) Thanksgiving week 2012, I can pretty safely predict finding lower prices Shorter term speculation is more difficult. My wild guess is that brand new merchandise prices next month will be the same. However, Amazon.com will, I'm also guessing, put out more and better "Like New" Warehouse deals. |

I don't think there will be any change after Christmas since they just had a big price drop. And really, with Amazon's amazing customer service, they would more than likely refund you the difference if you called them. Congrats on that big Amazon card! That is a great gift for anyone. |

So, all signs are that e-book readers are not at steady-state in terms of pricing and features. So, yes you are likely to see further price drops whenever you buy it. I'm contrasting this with something like laptops. For years, there has been no real change. Each new generation brought processor tweaks, and hard disk tweaks but the basic concept and the price levels have been steady for years. Bottom line is go ahead and buy it now. Whenever, you buy it, it will be outdated/underpriced soon. Don't deprive yourself of the enjoyment if you find value in the current price point. MLH P.S. OTOH, this won't be true anymore for laptops over the next couple years. You will see full featured laptops not much thicker than today's tablets with touchscreens, keyboards, swiveling screens to convert them into tablets, SSD, and long battery life (ultrabooks). Yes there will be some running IOS and android, but I'm talking about full function notebooks running either the Mac OSX or Win8. Within five years there is a small chance we will see alternatives to the mouse/keyboard (mind control, kinnect-style, etc). |

Just buy it and enjoy it. Of course they'll get cheaper, but by how much and when is anybody's guess. Meanwhile, each day you wait is a day without a Kindle. Go for it!

The recent price reductions were large indeed. I doubt a significant decrease is imminent, however Christmas is only 3 days away. You may as well wait to see. This is a great idea if you'd like to save every dollar possible. Imagine the flood of post-Christmas returns. |

I'd agree with the rest! Amazon just hugely dropped prices for e-readers, and thanks to them, the standard 5-6" reader is priced between $57 and $100! Seeing that there are no new models to look forward to in the coming weeks (except for Ectaco Jetbook Color), I doubt prices will go down, in fact, they might just go up! Second, like all have said, it's good to have an ebook reader to enjoy for the holidays! When are you going to buy it? AFTER the holidays (when you got no time to enjoy it?) |

Last year the PRS-950 was $149 and the PRS-650 was $99 dollars for a short time at B&H, around the end of November/start of December. I told my wife about this but she waited, and waited, evidently the PRS-650/950 were sold out everywhere and the price was exorbitantly high when Sony did finally stock back up. I think prices go up after the Holiday season is over.
