				New reader start up questions

I already own a Sony Pocket reader. Yesterday I bought the PRS-T1 and charged it up today. When I plugged it in it went thru the screens to ask me country, time zone and such. I unplugged it when it was fully charged. I just plugged it back into my PC hoping that it would recognize the reader library from my old pocket reader and transfer those files over to the new reader but once I plugged it in I got a message "data transfer mode" and it's been on there since (over 30 minutes) when I try to tap the screen or hit the home button I get nothing. Someone on here had said that the unit would say something about detecting another library and transfer those files. So, do I just uplug the new reader even though it says to check your computer to see if data transfer is complete?? I can't tell that's it's doing anything.....

Well it's been in the data transfer mode now for over an hour. How long does it take to transfer?? At some point will it give me a different message or do I just unplug it?

Are you using a PC or a Mac? Do you know how to eject a USB device? |

On the tool bar there should be an icon that looks like a USB plug. Click on it and then click 'safely eject. . .'.

You can also eject from 'My computer'. Calibre can also eject it. I don't use the Sony Reader software, but I believe you need the latest edition in order for it to recognize the T1. The T1 uses a different operating system than the previous readers. |

Indeed, I am a bit confused. The T1 does not support the old Reader Library software (or, rather, is not supported by the software). So you need to download the new Reader for PC. One you install it, it should prompt asking whether you wish to auto-import your old books and collections.

The download link: http://ebookstore.sony.com/download/ Yet, beware. While the old software is not compatible with the T1, the new one isn't compatible with anything. Well, just kidding. It's supposed to work with the T1... and it somehow does. But it's full of bugs, it freezes, it doesn't display notes correctly, it is clunky, it won't let you delete some content... fun stuff... |

Which is why I don't use it. Well, I didn't use it with my 505, either. Sony makes great hardware, but their software leaves something to be desired. Always has. Use Calibre. |

If all the OP wants is to move the books that she has in her old library (with no notes or annotations) to her T1, then the new Sony PC software will get the job done. However, if she wants to have greater flexibility, then I say Calibre would be the program of choice, It is so easy to set up, yet has enough power to do whatever one wants to do with library management,

Amyb, as Kate said, your old Sony software will not work with the T1. That could be why it is still in data transfer mode as it sees nothing to transfer. |

The old reader software will not see your new T1. It might see your sd card if you have on in it. You have to install the new software either from the Sony website, or look for the G: Setting drive on your reader if it is plugged in. The software is there also. However, since the reader has come out there has been a software update to the Reader for PC.
