Smile Ordering Sony PRS-505 from Overseas

Hi,

Does anyone know how can I order Sony's latest mobile reader: PRS-505 from oversea?

I just went to Sony's website and checked it's ordering page, however I couldn't find a way to order it from out side of the USA.

Could anyone suggest a way? Thank you.

Hi,

I just did some searches on several shopping sites, and I have found only one is selling and it is about 379 USD (without shipping fee.). Comparing to Sony's official price (299 USD), it really made a big difference.

So if you know a way that I can get it... please let me know.

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for my impatient, I just can't wait to get it.

Hi,

I found one on JR.com: http://www.jr.com/OMBasketDetail.pro...ddToBasket.y=8

It seems that I can order the device from the website.

However, I don't quite understand the following statement:

At this time, we ship to the U.S., U.S. Territories, Puerto Rico, Canada, and APO/FPO only (your Billing address can be elsewhere). Click here for details.

Could somebody tell me if this sentence say that it can do the shipping internationally? (I'm just confused about the APO/FPO.)

Thanks.

No, that means that they don't ship overseas except to American military bases (that's what the "APO" bit means).

One company who does ship overseas is BHPhotoVideo. They've just been shut for a two week holiday, but they've been very good at supplying the PRS-500. I'm sure they'll be selling the 505 too.

I've just e-mailed them to ask if they'll be stocking the PRS-505. I'll let you know the response, if I get one.

Buying from overseas

I bought my PRS-500 via ebay and no problems except that had to pay additional UK tax - this was collected by the company delivering it. Tax depends on price declared by seller. Mine was about £40, if I remember okay. No problems with registering with Connect website and downloading books, including free offers at the time.

I would suggest you try to get a PRS-500 at a cheaper price. I'm very pleased with mine and not obsessed about upgrading since it does what I want, given additional software that is available for converting from pdf to lrf.

I have also emailed B&H about the new reader, even thought I'm still undecided. I'm still waiting for the Cybook and the Kindle review before buying. Anyway, this is what they replied:

Subject: The New Sony Reader prs-505

Our Answer: I am Sorry, the new Sony PRS-505 is not available yet here at B&H with no expected shipping date or pricing.

New items appear on web sites and in magazine articles long before they are actually shipped from the manufacturer. In addition, catalogs and advertisements including B&H's go to press weeks or even months before customers get to see them.

Information concerning the availability, inventory quantities and delivery dates, is something that manufacturers guard very intently. Very often we find out a new item is shipping when it appears on our loading dock. Manufacturers do not share their
secretes with B&H nor any other retailer.

B&H respectfully asks you to please be patient and watch our web site. When the item in question becomes available, it will appear on our web. Here you will find any official information we know. As additional product information becomes available from Sony USA, our site will be updated that day.

Please check the B&H web site for availability.

B&H will only begin accepting orders on new product when we know the manufacturer has begun shipping.

Thanks for suggestions, Yarrow.

Yes, I found lots of PRS-500 via eBay.com, and some of them are very cheep indeed. The reason I would like to get a 505 instead of 500 is because I have heard the screen contrast of 505 is better than 500, and there seems to be some driver problems with 500 as reported by some of the friends here.

Anyway, thanks for your kindly reply. I might consider to get a PRS-500 if I can't find a 505 on the internet eventually.

David

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I think it is just a matter of time. We just need to be more patient on that.

Hi JSWolf, I am living in Taiwan, R.O.C.

I just contacted one of my friends whose wife is working in Sony U.S.A, so probably I can ask her to get me one.

However, I am still considering about the shipping price, because it's way to far from America to Taiwan. So I might consider to get one on the online retail stores in order to save some transportation fees.
