no or "lost" ncx during conversion

Hi,

I have the problem that calibre does not generate (and even loses) ncx file:

1. convert epub to mobi via calibre: no ncx
2. convert (same) epub to mobi via kindle previewer: ncx generated
3. reconvert this .mobi with ncx to .mobi with calibre: no ncx

Much appreciated if anyone could explain this behavior to me and how I get the ncx file directly with calibre. (Using "Force use of...Contents" does not help either). I am using calibre 0.8.13. Kindle previewer 1.61

Best, Danckel

The NCX file is not part of the standard Mobipocket specifications. The Kindle previewer nor kindlegen creates an NCX file (they will use an already existing ncx file to create the chapter "jump points" that you see in the progress bar on the Kindle or in the Kindle previewer). Calibre doesn't create an ncx file when converting to mobi either... and it shouldn't. But calibre will create the chapter jump points in a mobi file from the existing ncx file when converting from an epub. I just converted one and the chapter jump points show up on the Kindle and in the Kindle previewer.

EDIT: Ignore the above, I didn't know about the bug. I still stand by everything I said though.

Ok, thanks for this very fast reply.

I thought the problem was me. I will wait patiently for the next release then. Thanks again and keep up this really excellent work!

Best,
Danckel

Well, my experience has been that earlier calibre versions have been very generous in their ncx creation. I found this very helpful, even if it is not part of any documentation. Using Mobipocket Creator and writing/adding ncx by hand was a real pain.

I uploaded a fixed build 0f 0.8.13 if you re-download and re-install you should be fine.
