Metadata plugboard for emailed books

I've set up a plugboard (any format, any device) to send books to my kindle as "series - # - title". It works great when I transfer books over USB, but if I send books by email it seems to bypass the plugboard.

Have I missed something or does email not currently take plugboards into account?

emailling doesn't use plugboards.
