It was a slow wreck happening - Amy Winehouse Dead at 27 y.o.
Amy Winehouse joins the 'Forever 27 Club'
by Benjamin Svetkey It’s almost enough to make you believe in numerology. Amy Winehouse’s death today — at 27 — makes her the sixth rock star to die at exactly that tragically young age. The founding member of the “Forever 27 Club,” as it has come to be known, was ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, who was discovered dead at the bottom of his swimming pool in East Sussex, England, on July 3, 1969. The Coroner’s report ruled it “death by misadventure.” Jimmy Hendrix died about a year later — at 27, too — in a London hotel room on the morning of September 18, 1970, after combining too many sleeping pills with too much red wine. Janis Joplin, 27, was found just two weeks later dead inside her psychedelically painted Porsche in the parking lot of the Landmark Motor Hotel in Los Angeles. The cause of her death was ruled a probable overdose of heroin. Twenty-seven-year-old Jim Morrison died in the bathtub of his Paris apartment on June 3, 1971. No autopsy was performed — ”heart failure,” was the official cause of death — shrouding his demise in mystery to this day (some people think it was all a hoax and that Morrison never died). The penultimate member — now that Winehouse has joined this tragically sad group — was Kurt Cobain, who was found dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound on April 5, 1994, less than two months after his 27th birthday. http://music-mix.ew.com/2011/07/23/a...rever-27-club/ |

Terrible. Wasted youth, indeed - just read about this on another forum.
But that "Forever 27 Club" is something I never knew about. |

She had an amazingly mature voice for one so young, and she made music in a style few would dare attempt. What a tragic waste this is.

While this is a sad event, it is one even a blind person could see coming.

I never realised that about The Twenty-Seven Club.
Amy Winehouse must have been in a great deal of mental pain, and spiralled down quickly into despair. Poor lass. |

I thought she was black, the first time I heard her sing, Rehab. The song had a raw emotional, yet cool, bluesy vibe. Etta James, in another key. You don't run across very many singers in a lifetime who have that unique talent. Why are artists afflicted by demons? They operate in different planes than the rest of us mortals. Shooting stars, walking infernos. As intense as their music, writing, painting or other creative path, they also have a need for numbing cocktails of drugs and booze. I feel depressed this weekend. Not just for Amy, but the innocent victims in Norway.

I didn't know about the "Club", either.
Last I heard they had not yet determined a cause of death...any update on that? |

The autopsy was inconclusive. The toxicology report could take a month, so unless someone was there with her around the time she died, it seems there won't be any conclusion for a while.
