Kindle DXG PDF Question
I just got a DXG today, and I've been experimenting around with it. One major issue I can't seem to figure out is how to get it to display a PDF at "actual size". I've created a PDF with a page size set to the DXG's screen dimensions, and a text block on the page with a nice 10mm left and right margin. When I open this PDF, the DXG defaults to displaying it on the fit-to-screen setting. This creates big problems on a page that doesn't have a lot of text, since the stupid thing tries to vertically center the small block of text. When I select "actual size", however, the DXG seems to auto-crop the top and left whitespace margins and displays the page starting with the upper left of the text block on the upper left of the screen rather than displaying the page with the top and left whitespace margins as it was created. Basically, my question is: is there any way to get this silly thing to just display a PDF the way it was made, or does every freaking setting on it result in the device altering the display of the document in some way? I just want an actual-size display, no zoom, no cropping, etc.
Thanks to any who have any tips or tricks. This is frustrating. |

I sort of found a solution to the problem by setting the page size to 130mm x 188mm and then fooling the DX by drawing a 0.25pt border around the edge of the page. That forces the DX to draw the border and thus it can't crop the left whitespace margin.
For a device whose sole realistic attraction at it's price point is eInk PDF handling, though, I am astonished at the unbelievably poor PDF support in this device. Given that, I'll likely just return it and wait for the iPad 3, which will hopefully have a higher resolution display. |
