Site maintenance - short offline time

During a planned software upgrade MobileRead will be shortly unavailable today.

We plan no more than five minutes for this upgrade.

What was it that was upgraded? And I never knew the site was down. I was sleeping during the down time.

That's right; normally we don't have to go down during an upgrade. But this time a kernel upgrade was involved which required an immediate reboot.

Downtime was 10 minutes due to some unexpected event (reminder to oneself: never reboot a system that is currently being backup'ed).

The update was so fast, I never even noticed it happened. Of course, being asleep at the time probably helped.

Once we reach the critical mass, we'll consider building a cluster service... then no more downtimes, even during updates

I just found it funny that I was just about to read about the downtime when the site went down.
