I'm sending hugs to all the wonderful people who take their time to upload the books I have enjoyed from MR. I like the tell idea mentioned above. While editing the book, you could add a statement with "formatted by" with your name and "this book is free on Mobile Read" every 10-20 pages. The people using your work won't take the time to go through the entire book looking for tells. Happy Reading! Joan

I do think that finding a solution to making the MR Library available through Amazon would be a huge boon if it could be done with minimal overhead. It has the unquestioned advantage of increasing our exposure and also puts paid to those who are ripping us off. OTOH, not all our books here are PD in the US, so we'd also have to sift through that. Hmmm. Well, ultimately it's Alex's decision, but I still think it would be great to get more people knowing about and using our Library.

More admin but if the book was only out of copyright in Canada or Australia you tick the box and offer it only on Amazon.ca or Amazon.com.au

One of the tricks that publishers use to 'copyright' PD books is to add a foreword or afterword. Or illustrations.

Maybe a short foreword or afterword about your experiences formatting the ebook, any problems that arose, choices made, etc., will be enough to be the copyrightable portion if someone copies the whole ebook without really checking it.

Now with Corbis (I think) offering free images for non-commercial purposes, maybe embedding a few Corbis images (cover anyone) in an ebook will get Corbis' lawyers involved...

Then again, I don't know if Corbis' deal is for offline use.
