Those diagonal lines on bottom left corner are a sure indicator for cracked screen substrate. The screen is physically damaged, no chance to fix this except for a full exchange of the screen. (Which is, BTW, not always easy. There have been spare parts on ebay that don't quite fit software-wise and need a few adaptions that are not so easy to do. Search the "waveform data" thread here for more info.)

So getting the new replacement to work is sort of 'iffy' I did contact a few of the sellers of new replacement screens on e-bay, asking if they did (or could) pre-load the waveform prom. Total silence in reply. Not even: "Duh..." Sell this one for parts and just buy a used (or new) one that is working. Note: The K3 and the K2 are still available either 'new' or 'reconditioned' from China suppliers. |

A new screen might cost you as much as a used k3. If you buy right.

3 questions
Where do I find the mentioned ATK version? the latest I find is the 1.67.
Also, what does that mean: " USB drivers needed for this process will not install. The easiest option is to utilize a Windows 32bit system instead. If you try performing step 4 below and you get a "No USB detected" popup box after hitting next, this is the sign that the drivers did not install." When we talk about usb drivers we reffer to usblib0.dll? I have that in system32 folder but I still get the message "no usb detected". When I do the "usb downloader mode" trick it stays in that mode just for 5 seconds. Is this normal? |

If you want to something other than de-brick a Kindle, just escape to the command line (alt-f3 maybe). Working copies of all our tools are installed. |

Hello, been trying to get this guide to work. Not sure it will at this point. Kindles been charging as long as suggested if not longer. Pretty sure the storage on the device was badly corrupt so found this guide. Last thing before hard death was an attempted restart and stuck at please wait while your kindle restarts. Before was getting the green light. Heard mention of the ribbon cable and messed with it and momentary green light and showed loading progress, stopped in middle now nothing. Got to the point in the guide where you hit the program button, says reset usb, do that and gives reset board and make sure in bootstrap mode. Lost there. Any ideas?
Edit: correction the point where you hit program is actually not just reset usb, but "Failed to initial flash or Do not support this Flash, please reset the target" this was where I unplugged and replugged usb hit program and got the latter message. Is it wrong kernel perhaps? this is model d00901...ser b008 but pretty sure its right. The version it was showing before death and constant crashing was 3.4 could that be it? Was hoping not to go to much further but maybe unless you may have an idea based on what I have posted after this. Guess I will try the kernel that matches the version for now. Dont know if works with same settings in the guide. Just that the "stupid win 7 32 bit" was installed, is it worth going for the kubrick after all that?

Ok, tried the kubrick and when it got to the partition bit where it says it will take a long time, it takes one second, not going past 0% and says done. Any ideas why this occurs? This disk or whatever it is needs erased and partitioned would really help i think.

Try another USB cable (just in case), and the second thing is: make sure the battery is loaded. As in: been on the charger for 48h or so.

Edit:Tried different cable and no go. Even realized did not try usb 2 instead of 3 but it was the same, not getting past 0 percent and saying "done". I really want to erase and reformat that drive if I could. Last edited by chumdoggin; 06-15-2014 at 04:52 PM. |

or If it was totally unusable - Then the system would rebuild it during a cold boot. So, it isn't corrupted enough (yet). Plus - how long have you waited for the boot process to complete? That storage is on a flash device - it takes a very long time for the file system checker to test and repair the file system on it. |

At least it responded to the power switch volume key command. Last edited by chumdoggin; 06-15-2014 at 05:06 PM. |
