Well, I said I was a poor observer on this one... I guess the separate concepts of organizing by shelf and by series to a shelf ran together for me. Whoops.

Hi, sorry, I never got notifications of responses to this thread after I posted my last message.

When I added the books through Calibre onto the shelves, I ejected the reader, watched it process, then checked the shelves. The shelf name was there, but there were no books on it ("003 General Fiction 0 books"). I then had to go and add the book manually to the shelf. However, I should point out that I didn't read the "how to" sticky at the beginning of the section, so I may not have been transferring the correct metadata. Now I just add them manually anyway.

Is there any way to make the cover show up when it's powered off? Mine just shows the book name on a blank cover (sleep mode shows proper full epub cover).

UPDATE: It seems to be only with micro SD carded books. I can live with it, I was just wondering if it's just me. Well, no I don't, I want it to be everyone so I'm not a freak.

And is there a patch or config change to make the font larger in the "details" section?

Apologies again for the delay, I don't know why the reply notification didn't show up in my inbox, unless Gmail spammed it.

When you post or reply to a thread, there should be an option to set the notification type. The default can be set you user settings somewhere.

It should be happening. If you can run in debug mode and post the log produced I can look at it and see what is happening.

To run in debug mode, right click the preferences button in calibre and select "Restart in debug mode". Calibre will restart with a message about the log. Connect the device, let calibre run the iniital device jobs and when they are finished, close calibre. The debug log will be displayed. Please port all of the log.

With the current firmware the covers should show for all books. There have been different bugs with the cover in different firmware, but I am pretty sure that 3.3.0 doesn't have any.

I have seen a patch for this. I don't remember if it was in the 3.2.0 or 3.3.0 patch threads.

The notifications being blocked as spam is fairly likely. You should be able to tell Gmail to let them through.

Someone will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have to connect/disconnect the device from Calibre twice after setting up new shelves. First time to put the shelves on the device, and second time to populate them.

It should create the shelves and put the books on them in one step. There are reasons it might not put all the books shelves, but getting none on would be unusual.

For *me* it's not a big deal, except for when I initially set up a new reader and want to add 400+ books to shelves. After that, such as now, I rarely add more than 16 books at a time, generally of the same genre, so I just use the "Manage shelf" option and populate them that way.

When I went through the sticky (*after* attempting to create shelves through Calibre), I read there are some changes that need to be made to the plugins to allow metadata to be transferred over - I didn't do any of that when I tried Calibre the first time. That could be why I saw a shelf, but no books on the shelf.

Re: Spam: Gmail if often quick to flag something normally sent to my inbox as spam if there is a keyword they think is "spam specific". I have found receipts, facebook status update notifications, and Amazon emails in my server-based Gmail UI (I use Thunderbird as a laptop client). WHY they are put in there is beyond me, but there they are.

Re: powered off book covers: I tested it with several of both ereader storaged ebooks and micro sd carded ebooks (I'm just making up words now). When I powered off with a Kobo stored ebook (book in the reader memory), the cover shows up perfectly fine. When I power off on a book that is stored on the micro sd card, the generic cover shows up. It's like it doesn't have enough time to render the cover from the sd card before the power goes off. I pretty much NEVER power off my reader, so it's not a big deal. It's just a quirk, another quirk that makes this so fascinating/frustrating to play with.

I tried an experiment a few minutes ago:
1) I sideloaded a couple of epubs over to the main memory of the reader, started one, then powered off the Glo. The cover showed up perfectly (I thought maybe it had before because I was using a kpub).

2) Next I opened my current read, which is on the sd card, powered off. That showed up, but a fuzzy image (the kind I get as a screen saver if I don't go to the main screen and put it to sleep at least once during the reading of the book).

3) I then opened up a nonfiction book I read at when I want a change of pace, again stored on the SD card, powered off. Generic cover showed up.

4) Then I went back to the previous book, my current read stored on micro SD card which had rendered fuzzily on the powered off screen, powered off. Generic cover showed up.

All that leads me to think that while it's SUPPOSED to render covers in powered off mode, and will if it's on the internal memory, it struggles when it's on the Sd card. As I said before, it doesn't *really* matter that it's not working that way, I rarely power off, I do get irked, though, when things don't do what they're supposed to do. Yes, I spend my life irked.

Now I'm getting out of the lab and into the sunshine. It's been a long hard winter in Canada.
