Yikes! That really is too far to run!

(Sorry. I had to do that.)

I'm sitting down with a mug of tea after wrestling ice chunks from inside the wheel covers where they had frozen to the wheel, and really threw off the balance. While I was out I also broke up some ice from the driveway.

Ah ... you reminded me of the winter when we had a snow storm followed by freezing rain. I finally chipped open the drivers side door of my VW Rabbit and hopped in to go to work. Unknowst to me, ice chips/chunks had formed inside the door latch assembly - which prevented the door latch from catching firmly - so there I was driving down the road and my car door swung open - I grabbed it and slammed it shut - and it promptly came open again - and I heard what sounded like ice cubes moving around in it - so I began slamming the door shut as hard as I could with my left hand (right hand on the steering wheel) repeatedly until the impact shifted or broke the ice inside the door latch - allowing it to latch firmly onto the door post. Now that was a ride!

Thinking about 'luck.'
What makes some people 'luckier' than others? Why do some people always seem to have such 'good' luck while others always seem to have 'bad' luck? There are lots of aphorisms about luck;
'Luck is the residue of design,'
'The more I practice, the luckier I get,'
'Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect.'
'Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.'
One of my favorites is "I believe in luck and fate and I believe in karma, that the energy you put out in the world comes back to meet you."

There's no doubt in my mind that really nasty people seem to wallow in bad luck, unhappy times, or as Thoreau said 'lead lives of quiet desperation.' It must suck to be them.

About to watch this animated movie called "Big Hero 6", don't know what it is about but if it's animated I am automatically curious. I know I'm a sucker for animation

Must have been quite a sight as you flapped your way down the road!

I have a similar "opens but won't close" problem on icy days with the rear, sliding doors on the minivan. I've learned not to open them!

We now have a footpath all the way up the driveway! Of course, with the sun staying out longer, all it would take is one warm-ish sunny day to make more progress with the ice than I have in the past three days.

Enjoying...

"Four Tao philosophers as cedar waxwings chat on a February berrybush ln the sun, and I am one.

Such merriment and such sobriety-- the small wild fruit on the tall stalk--
was this not always my true style?

Above an elegance of snow, beneath a silk blue sky a brotherhood of four
birds. Can you mistake us?

To sun, to feast, and to converse and all together--for this I have
abandoned all my other lives."

Me too! I watched it with my friends and co-workers, all of them loved it, and predicted the main villain... I'm proud to say I guessed it right! Reading books and knowing the intentions/characterizations helped me figure it out.

I like this Stitchawl! I really appreciate quotes that are rich in description and reveals a simple, important feeling. (It also adds up that Waxwings, are particularly very beautiful)

I'd never heard of a waxwing before, but I see that they are an extremely attractive if somewhat serious-looking bird for their size.

I'm going to London with my sister for a couple of days in two weeks time. Mainly to go to the musical Cats (hopefully, there weren't two seats available next to each other, so were going to try to get tickets that are sold on the day of the performance). But I'm also thinking about a week away on my own late August or early September.

I would love to go to Dublin or Newcastle, to further explore the city. But I checked prices and the price of a week at my favourite holiday park. And it's a big price difference, so I might end up in my favourite apartment again.

I had planned on going away to Belgium for a couple of days in May or June but decided against it. Instead I want to treat myself to a day out at least once a month instead.

Wishing I knew how to generate large quantities of anti-matter, a couple hundred pounds at least. Then I would take the same amount of some matter and I would violently crash them together thus creating a release of energy next to which the biggest nuclear detonation would look like a small wet cracker thus destroying this world and everyone in it...

Hmm was I thinking out loud?
If so then just ignore what I said, I never said it you hear me, you got no proof that I said it!

On a totally unrelated subject, does anyone know if there might be a book out there called creating and storing anti-matter for dummies or something similar? For all you know I just want to have a read at it out of curiosity to pass the time and nothing more.
